Why do you need our prayers nanny? Can you tell us more please. x
Hi Nanny,Don,t worry it does not help in fact it will make you worse.Welcome to our community.We. Are a friendly bunch, when not talking politics lol.I have very severe Copd ( emphysema ) .Do you know your Fev1? Mine is 20%,I am on maximum medications and have an appointment ( bed booked ) for Lung Volume Reduction. Surgery in May.If you exercise as much as you can,STOP smoking obviously and have a healthy diet your condition may not get much worse? Was it your GP that gave you the diagnosis? Or have you seen a consultant as GPs can get this wrong. If you tell us a bit more about your condition and how it affects you I,m sure we can put your mind at rest.Try to relax and keep in touch.D. 🌷
welcome Nannyof9, I am sure you will soon settle in and with help learn to manage your COPD, with good care you will be on this site for many years to come x
Welcome nanny to out friendly informative group.
Welcome and don't worry. COPD is a slow illness and takes some time to really develop. In the meantime, provided you have the right medication, you can lead a normal life.
Good luck.
Welcome nanny
Hello nannyof9, - what lovely name.
It's nice to meet you, but you sound worried. There are lots of people here who've had COPD for years and when you're ready to talk about things they'll be ready to help.
Take care,
Sue x
Hi nannyof9 and welcome
You have good replies.
Your COPD is at a relatively early stage, so with proper medication and a healthy lifestyle you will live a normal lifespan.
A positive attitude helps massively, don't let this illness rule your life.
And don't believe everything you read on Doctor Google !! You will scare yourself unnecessaryily.
The members on here are living with this, and are far more knowledgeable, they are a wealth of information, and will give you masses of advice, support, help and understanding....We can also give you a few laughs along the way.
Velvet xx
Welcome nanny, you sound really fed up, but don't worry there is life with COPD, it just has to be managed, I presume you have your medication and inhalers? The trick is to know your limitations and not overdo it, I have been on my med for about 2 years and I am living life quite normally, but as I said before you have to know your limitations, if you have any questions just ask us, someone will have the answer, we don't bite, we are quite a good bunch and there is a lot of knowledge here for you to tap into.
😀👍🌹
Hi, welcome aboard the COPD train. The staff and passengers here are very friendly and we are are travelling on the same journey. We only have 1st class carriages here so make yourself comfortable and enjoy the smiles (and sometimes tears).
The folks on here will help you get through this diagnosis (they have me) and will answer your questions and help put things into perspective. I was very frightened at first but now I understand how, if you exercise and eat healthily things won't change quickly if at all but above all if you are still smoking, STOP!
Enjoy the site, share your worries and share you happy times too.
Welcome x
Welcome to the.site. there are some fab people on here, very well informed, you have come to the right place. I wonder what your fev 1 is?
G'day Granof9

Welcome to our world where we as a family, laugh, cry, vent our spleens and share stories, and try to live our lives whilst helping others.
Don't believe we are all crazy, because some of us have not been certified as yet.
I myself have been tested and the Dr's found nothing.
Sorry, nothing wrong. Lucky I fixed that or Velvet and the other one would have been rattling my cage.
Seriously
You have asked for us to pray for you. So I will include you in my daily prayers.
You will meet many good folk here, some sufferers, some carers, but all with a common aim. To find answers to questions that the medico's cannot/Will not give.
Will (Australia)
Hello nanny I have had copd for many years and it really did not affect my life I worked full time, gardened a lot , looked after home and family. It was only if I got a cold or chest infection that I was aware that I had it. As the years went on I got more breathless and could not carry anything heavy, Its really only been the last four years that I have seen a decline. I now have bronchiectasis I still try to do everything do not always succeed but I try. Life does not end with copd. be positive do as much as you can and exercise. There are a lot of people on this site far more informed than me to give you advise if needed.
G'Day clematis 5932 I have been told recently I have bronchiectasis and am wondering what medication you take for this. I also have sarcoidosis.
Olerocker Sorry have only just picked up your request can I reply back to you Wednesday Evening. Have got to go out early tomorrow morning.
G'day to you again, that would be great. I take Brefaris twice a day and Breo 200 once a day. I am also on 7mg of prednisolone for my Ra. Have a great day, hugs
olerocker Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I take Azithromycin 250mg daily Fostair 100 twice daily ( I can increase this if I am a bit sob) Theophylline 650mg daily Tiotropium 18mg daily Salbutamol as needed. I also have a rescue pack of Prednisolone which starts at eight a day for 5days then starts to reduce over another two weeks. And Doxycliclin also as a rescue antibiotic. I also take Omeprazole 20 mg daily and simvastatin daily. I have not heard of Brefaris or Breo hope this helps.
Dear Nanny,Hello
U seemed to be worried about it.Pls stop worrying and refer to a consultant, if not yet, (a proper specialist for this illness)
As mentioned yourself the stage is early and therefore absolutely controllable with proper medication.
I am also at the initial to moderate stage and having perfectly normal life.No issues but pls follow the doctors advice.
I also pray that u get well soon but u hv to promise that you'll refer to proper consultant of this problem and will act on his advice.
All the best wishes for u.
Bye Bye.
Hi Nanny. I was diagnosed with moderate COPD. Although the diagnosis is quite scary the people here have made me realize that I can continue to live a good life if I exercise and watch my weight. I am not on any medications and have a rescue inhaler just in case. We are lucky that we are not end stage like many and they are still continuing to live their lives. Are you having severe symptoms or something?
I wasn't on any medication either until I quit smoking in January and have been sick every since.Lungs feel tight and no energy.
Nanny the body takes some time to recover from not smoking I know it did with me. I felt awful at first. Try to push yourself to do a little walking. When I first started walking I could only go around the block now I can do 20 minutes no problem. You did the best thing quitting smoking and I know it is so very hard. What medication are you on? Did your doc say you will continue to need it? My doc at first was going to give me inhalers for everyday use but I told him I didn't want to take until I really needed it. Hoping you feel better real soon.
Inhalers and predisone right now.Thank's for your concern. He just said to wait and see how I do.I know I never want to smoke again. How long have you been quit smoking?
Nanny I quit with the e-cig about 2 years ago and quit the e-cig a year ago last November. I'm the same way I never want to smoke again although I still get that urge and people tell me I always will. I hate the smell now. Thankfully I only have one gf that smokes and sometimes I am tempted to hold my nose while around her. I wish I would have quit smoking when I was first diagnosed (2010 with mild COPD/emphysema) and maybe I would now NOT be moderate. Please keep in touch and let me know how you do.
Hi nanny welcome to the forum. I have not been on here for long but all these kind people on this forum made me feel really welcome they have helped me come to terms with my condition. I also have copd I have a fostair inhaler and a rescue inhaler. I feel like I can talk to anybody on here and they are always happy to help if they can. Nice friendly bunch of people.
