Oh I know how you feel Don, fed up with being indoors all the time. It's something we are all feeling if we are honest. We fill our time with interesting hobbies like gardening, painting, poetry, baking, quizzes, sewing and knitting to name just a few. But, it's not the same as having the freedom to do and go where you please and when you please.
Just hang in there Don, change is on the way,, by the time you get those tomatoπ π plants in it will be time to load up that camper van and you and Midge π will be off! Where to? Who knows what adventures lie ahead.
Hey, have you looked out of the window? π The sunπ is out, the sky is blue, the rosesπΉππ·π»πΌ are sweet and so are you! Cheers for now.
Chrys xx
Awww, I could give you a tomato plant or two Don,
I have excess, grown from seed,
can you send midge to fetch them
complete with doggy trailer
I'll pop them in a secured bag
they could be with you in time for tea
Meanwhile thank heavens for the food parcel;
tins of goodies all round

The trouble is my greenhouse is so far away from the house I can no long reach it so easily. I'm going to have to use my walker and Captain Tom could easily overtake me at the speed he goes. But thank you for the offer.

They are gardeners delight so can grow outside once the weather is warm enough which is happening this week here
Memories of tomatoes. Nothing is the same as those you grew yourself. Gardeners delight then sun gold were the best for me . They grew in pots outside my back door
Now i cannot get any compost . The places that delivered were sold out and those that had it were closed. Everybody not working has taken up gardening. If you have to buy them try Piccolo
Oh the joys of tomato skins, to eat a tomato (which I love) I have to put in boiling water, to split the skin, then peel it, then cut it open and get all the seeds out. By the time I have done all that I am exhausted.
Iβve got some of those rhino skinned ones at the moment. They are going in the microwave for a few minutes then put on toast with a poached egg on top.
Good afternoon Mr.D and I really liled your rhyme. I was revollecting my times as a tom boy child, playing in my Grandparents greenhouse and having lots of fun. Admittedly, according to my Dad, i would build some sort of camp inside and ruined his plants, veggies or whatever was in my way!!! Happy memories indeed. How strange that Midge enjoys a tom or two. Hazel won't be tempted and gives an evil glare if you tried for too long, dangling the tomatoe in her face.
Have a good day and the weather may just hold out and let the sun shineππ€π₯!!! πΏπ·ππ
Brilliant Don. Two weeks ago I had a tin of tomatoes in my government box, catering size! Last week they gave me a tin of baked beans - also catering size. I gave both to a neighbour with 4 children. I don't fancy being a blimp flying through the air.
If you and poems got together you could have made a super soup,! Baked beans and tomatoes plus onions and garlic all liquidised together is very good but there would be rather a lot !
If you and poems got together you could make baked bean soup . Just add o nions and garlic with the tomatoes and beans. You could feed a town then . Actually you might have a problem pulverising that lot.
Hi Don. Interesting how you come to appreciate these simple pleasures.
My neighbour gave me 5 tomato plants along with 2 cucumber, 2 courgette and a basil plant. They are in the bay window of my sitting room which faces south so theyβre doing really well. I enjoy looking after them and itβs interesting watching them grow. Iβll put them outside in a couple of weeks. Such a shame youβre not able to enjoy growing your own this year. Hope youβll soon be able to go out in your camper van. Midge and the girls must missing their trips out.
Hope youβve managed to keep in control of your styluses ( styli) etc today
I am no gardener have always enjoyed growing tomatoes and found them fascinating. Plant a little seed and in a very short time you have a vine with a mass of fruits, if all goes well. The smell played a big part in it too. Reminded me of both my father and his father. π€
Hi Don,We felt the same way last month, having always grown tomatoes,Then when we had all the time in world.got no tomato plants no compost .Went outside one morning saw a Bag of compost ,tomorite.pkt of seeds outside greenhouse .We dont know to this day who the magic fairy was.Having asked everyone we could think of.We wonder if the people that ordered them are still waiting for delivery !!!
You could grow some in a hanging basket just ouside your door.I have done that with a variety called Tumbling Tom.They are sweet little cherry tomatoes.π
I have no means of getting to a garden centre anymore so haven't done it in a while now.Maybe the plants are available online......,hmm got me thinking now
I have a large hanging basket with tumbling strawberries in.It has been producing fruit for years. Not a heavy cropper but very tasty, fruits are just forming now.,π
Tomatoes in greenhouses do have a very distinctive smell.Funny how smells bring back memories.I remember the smell of my grandad's shed on a warm autumn evening...stored apples and cedar wood.[and a hint of Woodbines] π xx
