Tomatoes.

β€’18 Replies

I've always loved tomatoes,

Since I sat on Grandad's knee.

The photo shows his greenhouse

With my sister next to me.

I've never been a gardener,

Though I like to see it neat

But when it comes to tommies,

I grow the best ones in the street.

It really makes no sense now,

Cos there's only Midge and me

There's far more toms than we can eat

As you can plainly see.

So I give them to my neighbours,

Who watch out for me all year.

Which gives me lots of pleasure,

And generates good cheer.

Great. Chutney? Home-made ketchup? Soup? Sauce? For the freezer?

Could you use a crop of green tomatoes? I always end the season with a cartload of them. I'll pop round with them if you like. I have trouble boiling an egg!

My blood won't flow so good in my legs,

Just a few drops, dribbles and dregs,

My feet in winter get so awfully cold,

reason for loss of feeling, so I am told,

chillblains flare-up to add to my woes,

Oh, how I wish for toma-toes.

β€’ in reply to2greys

The cause of chilblains it transpires

Is toasting tootsies by the fires.

Your toms look great and love the pic of you and your sister.... bet you have a lot of happy childhood memories.

I lived in a house with cobbled streets and back entry's .... not saying I didn't have lots of happy memories... just no grass , trees, or greenhouse !!! till I was 11 then we moved , had a front and back garden πŸ˜€ Loved it lol πŸ˜„ Xxx

Another good one Don :) My father was a gardener and grew wonderful tomatoes. I would visit him at work and nick loads of them to eat. One day I had 14! Brought back some lovely memories thank you.
