Blood clotting abnormalities reveals which critically ill COVID-19 patients are at risk for thrombotic events and need hemodialysis.

When researchers from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora, used a combination of two specific blood-clotting tests, they found critically ill patients infected with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) who were at high risk for developing renal failure, venous blood clots, and other complications associated with blood clots, such as stroke. Their study, which was one of the first to build on growing evidence that COVID-19-infected patients are highly predisposed to developing blood clots, linked blood clotting measurements with actual patient outcomes. The research team is now participating in a randomized clinical trial of a drug that breaks down blood clots in COVID-19-infected patients. "This is an early step on the road to discovering treatments to prevent some of the complications that come with this disease," said Franklin Wright, MD, FACS, lead author of the research article and an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Their research is published as an “article in press” appearing on the Journal of the American College of Surgeons website ahead of print.

The reason why I doubled my Aspirin and Nitrate doses as part of my self managed Covid-19 illness.

While I can’t take asprin, I do take G&T as the tonic water has added benefit of quinine hydrochloride

Aspirin is used as a blood thinner, quinine hydrochloride is not a blood thinner. I would also advise that alcohol will lower your immune system which is not exactly what you want at this time.

I've worried about this for a while since i heard about the clots. My blood has two factors in it (not sure what... found out in 2003 but never wrote it down) which make it more likely to clot :(

I doubled my Aspirin dose from 75mgs (basically a Junior Disprin) to 150 mgs, which in reality is 1/2 of the old adult dose taken for a headache,(300mgs). but should always be taken with food to prevent possible stomach bleeds. If you are any doubt then telephone your GP to check first. I have now reduced it back to the normal 75mgs again after the symptoms ceased.
