Hi Kennetbarble,

I think your firm are doing the right thing. You could find yourself in a vary precarious position if you were to contract the virus.

Remember, you have been furloughed, not made redundant. If your firm wanted to get rid of you they could have done so cited economic difficulties due to the pandemic.

Furloughing is a temporary measure designed to save jobs.

Try not to get too despondent. It is not forever.

What is furlough?

Furlough supports firms hit by coronavirus by temporarily helping to pay the wages of people who can't do their jobs.

It allows employees to stay on the payroll, even though they aren't working.

The company can top up this pay if it chooses and must let employees know they have been furloughed.

You still get paid when your furloughed, you don't when your laid off

Words can mean whatever you want them to mean, but words used by the government have a fixed definition.

Hi

Oh please dont think like that.

Its nice to hear of an employer looking out for their staff when so many are not.

Im sure your company appreciate you and are supporting you the best way they know how. A much nicer term is "job retention scheme", meaning your job will be there waiting for you when your ready🤞

Rather than putting you on the scrap heap it sounds as if they are protecting your interests. If you have received a letter telling you to shield that is exactly what you need to do. You are at risk of severe illness if you catch the virus.

You have been given a holiday with pay, make the best of it. The rest will do you good, it's a pity that you can't go out and about but you can't have everything. Once all this crap is over you'll be able to return to work with renewed energy. It's good to hear of a employer who values his worker in this way, being the only one makes you a bit special. 😉

You’re certainly not been put on the scrap heap, it’s a long holiday with pay. I personally think your employer is doing the right thing, protecting you!

My son has been furloughed from work, in part because his company couldn’t guarantee safe working and partly because I come into the very high risk group.
