Just wondering if anyone else on here has used one of these.
I'm in my second one but both of them seem to be defective in that the "flutter" doesn't work properly. With the most recent one it's been rubbish from the start. My surgery aren't familiar with the device and at the moment I can't imagine I'll be able to have a face to face meeting with a member of the Respiratory Team.
Have I just been unlucky with this device?

I’ve had many acapellas which have worked fine. However the first one I had which wasn’t from the hospital and the one I have had recently were both rubbish.
It might be helpful to get in touch with whoever prescribed it or if you purchased it, it is up to the retailer to sort a replacement out for you. Don’t let them fob you off asking you to send it back to the manufacturers, your contract is with the retailer.
Thanks, both came from the pharmacy at my GP surgery. They're on prescription. I suspected the first one wasn't working properly and it was confirmed by the Respiratory Team. The surgeries andvpharmacies really have no idea about them.
I find with my acapella, sometimes the metal strip doesn’t flutter properly.
I turn it over a couple of times:hav a quick blow and wait for it to work. There doesn’t seem to be an exact science to it;I’m sorry. I can be any more help. Hope this helps a bit. Stay safe
I'm on aerobika flutter device so I'm not sure about yours but I didn't want to go back to the hospital because of the outbreak and I was really surprised to find quite a few good utube videos on my mobile phone even how to use with my saline nebuliser which I find really helpful.
mine works very well green 1. it does help get phlem up i use it twice a week .normally. wen im bad i use most days.i was in hosp for 9 days a year last feb with flu/pneumonia. i was given mine then
I was prescribed one, did absolutely nothing for me. Apparently, some people get relief with it and some don’t. I’m obviously the latter! Keep well. Joy.
When I first got mine I was shown how to use it by the resp nurse and I felt the vibrations. Since getting it home, it has never seemed to work as well. I thought I was probably doing something wrong so put it to one side and left it. Then a little while ago, I gave it another go and it seemed to work. Since then, it hasn't. After reading these posts, I'm now thinking that it could be a faulty device, but am also bearing in mind the fact that you haven't had much success with one either so maybe they don't suit everybody. xx Moy
I was given mine by the Brompton hospital, the physio told me some get benefit from using it and some don’t! Maybe you’re like me Moy? One Of those it doesn’t help/suit. Joy.
Hi milandra17,I have flutters on a regular 6mths basis last 5yrs and I put them in milton fluid completely stripped down ,so when re assembled they sometimes need to be shaken to get the movement back working right.often trying a couple of times a lot of messing about but some do play up some are ok
It's difficult to put your head in the right position to make it flutter. Very much an individual thing i think. My sister has her head in a completely different position with hers.
There is a certain way that you breath into it that makes a big difference.
Take a deep breath and place the acapella to your mouth, blow out by mouth using your diaphragm. If done correctly, it should make a low vibrating sound and you should feel the vibration in your lungs. Don't breath out too fast, just alittle faster than you would normally breath out.
I've never been offered carbocistein. I've been well for over a year and no longer need to attend the consultant's clinic. I went from constant chest infections for 2 years to nothing. No idea how or why but hope it lasts
Glad to hear that you have no flare ups, lets hope it stays that way.
The carbocistein was prescribed for the purpose of getting up the mucus, if you haven't seen your GP lately ask him about it with the acapello machine.
My GP doesn't really have any input re my bronchiectasis. I go straight to the Respiratory Team and they've never mentioned this drug. If i get to the state i was in previously i will be sure to mention it though, thank you
