Can I catch COVID-19 from my mail?
Official guidelines state the risk is low. "In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures," the Centres for Disease Control have said.
The World Health Organization comes to the same conclusion: "The likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, travelled and exposed to different conditions and temperature is also low.”

I just think about the delivery person who put it through my door -- then if that was the case one delivery person would be sharing infection with all those he/she delivered to and then I am sure in theory we would be hearing of it if that happened.
Not heard anything yet
I have one currently sat on my mat - I am pondering whether to open it or wait 2 days like I did the last lot
may i suggest that you make up a mild solution of bleach and water and wipe over any mail or packages received into the house, this should kill any viral traces left by infected hands within minutes scientists have advised, just a small habit you may need to become adjusted to doing until we hear more definitive guidelines re viral transmission from surfaces.
p.s wash your hands in soap and water afterwards also to remove any bleach from them as well.
Thats just what I do Mike , same on all packaging from supermarket x
It doesn't take long to do does it irene and i suppose every little helps. xx
Do you know how our Fran Happy London is doing? I often think of her and hope that she is keeping well in this crisis x
i haven't heard from her for a couple of weeks Irene and i am mindful of sending an e.mail just to check, thanks for reminding me. xx
Cardboard boxes I leave for 24 hours, then wipe down with my surface wipes. Plastic I wipe down straight away, then only open if the contents are urgently needed by me.
We leave parcels and packets for at least 48 hours unless we need what is in them. My husband opens the post. After opening anything even after its ‘quarantine’ time on the hall floor he washes his hands well, as he does when the shopping is delivered. He won’t let me touch anything for a good length of time after it comes into the house.
Do as Skis suggests and wipe down all packagjng with a mild solution of bleach or if you have antibacterial wipes use them x
