A man has been arrested for allegedly failing to self-isolate after arriving on the Isle of Man amid the coronavirus pandemic. The island has passed emergency legislation requiring new arrivals to quarantine themselves for 14 days.
People who break the law could face a fine of up to £10,000 or three months in prison, the chief minister has said. The 26-year-old man is thought to be the first person held in the British Isles for breaching quarantine rules.
It is not a exactly huge hub of population. Depending on where he was picked up he might have stuck out like thumb as a stranger in a small village, or could have been checked up on with a random visit and not found at his registered residence.
The local paper story:
"In a statement posted this morning, the central neighbourhood policing team said they had a man in custody for allegedly failing to adhere to the new legislation requiring him to self-isolate."
Thanks for this. I heard about this story but i understood it to be a person over 70 who was arrested for going out of his house. I'm glad that wasn't so.
People have to be made aware of how serious this really is and needs tough measures, more so it seems the Brits. I was ashamed to watch the stupid people in Spain ignoring their rules by continuing to drink outside even though the police kept trying to move them on telling them to get back to their hotels x
