Panic buying, shop shelves emptied of toilet paper, hand sanitiser, pasta and other household supplies, supermarkets policing limits on buying products, Amazon and eBay stopping opportunists from selling items at exorbitant prices. When will things get back to normal?
The good news: well before the coronavirus crisis is over.
Usually a well-oiled supply chain guarantees no shortages or excesses in products. Products bought in the supermarket are quickly replenished, ensuring stock is always available.
I think to be honest the government must bring in price control. As you already know my daughter works in a chemist part of her duties is ordering over the counter stock. For the last two weeks every time she orders basics like paracetamol the price as gone up from the supplier. For example one item that cost 75p at cost now is 2.20. Her manager as kept his profit exactly as it was before but my daughter is putting up new prices every other day as new stock comes in. It is not like she can change supp! Her as she already uses five different sources but they have all put prices up.
Not much help to her and chemist's unfortunately, Amazon and Ebay are apparently clamping down profiteering, which may help spur on other organisations to do the same. Ultimately this needs to be led by the government and fines introduced for those making "a fast buck". There will always be someone taking advantage of a bad situation with what is essentially black marketing.
There are lighter moments one pensioner seeing the price increase offered her two toilet rolls for the product. At present my daughter is working all hours. Normally on a busy day they would make up perhaps 160 prescriptions. Everyday this week they have been over the 300 mark plus triple the amount of dossett boxes they would normally do. Everyone is trying to get medications to go into isolation.
One person on ebay selling 2 packets of aldis paracetamol extra which i have been buying for nearly 2 years 49p a packet of 16 the bid is now at 5 pounds plus 1.65 pp for 2 packets its disgusting
Sensible, there was a story this am about Scotland asking for help re sanitisers, a Gin company is reported as stepping and using its production line for sanitiser instead of Gin. Wonderful I think.
No need it was an honest question James. Different areas are doing different things. My Daughter said next week they will be sitting looking at each other.
