From memory, the Aroma was a disinfectant smell, it was quite unique and I donโt mean in a good way,
I also remember at school in the mid 70s to the early 80s they had an even less luxurious, ๐but similar toilet paper minus the aroma, but I canโt recall what that brand was.
Those in the know used to keep sheets in their pockets and keep crinkling them up. Without going into too much detail, they were much better to used after a week or so. ๐
Outside toilets at my school (clitheroe) had rectangles of newspaper at first.then we got bronco. But 6 toilets shared one roll. We had to pass it along under the partitions. With about 350 children wanting to use them in playtime / dinner time there was always a queue. Sometimes the toilets got full. I donโt think washing hands was heard of then ( early 50s) about 56 we got indoor toilets and washbasins.
Amazing we all thrived in general, I loved that school though. Our teachers had fireplaces and would make our milk into cocoa on cold days thanks for bringing back memories
When I was a kid dad was a postie and ours wasn't Bronco or Izal but each sheet was stamped with Government Property - can't imagine why . It was useful as tracing paper and for playing combs I seem to recall.
I dont remember the bronco but i do remember the outside loo across the yd at my grandmas. It was a plank with a hole ,across the the top of what i suppose was a nightsoil loo. No flush. There were 3 houses round the yard but what I do remember vividly most is the smell of one of the neighbours an old lady . A witch to a child , Actually identified that smell over 75 years later when i opened the bottle that i bought for sterilizing the coronavirus- it was surgical spirit. The witch appeared Was she drinking it --- or using it for rubbing alcohol fori her aches and pains
