I feel very worried about this Mike for all of us. I am on methotrexate for my rheumatoid arthritis it destroys the immune system , along with bronchiectasis so I wont be joining the herd so to speak and like you feel that the government are gambling with my life. After listening to this on the news, it seems to me that what they are saying is they are trying to delay the onslaught of this virus as the nhs cant cope with this all at once, how they will delay people getting sick until the summer beats me, but what can we do but carry on and hope for the best. I feel more worried that the supermarket shelves are getting bare and we wont be able to get what we need. See I have become a worry wart x
Alarmingly Irene, their theory is to get as many people infected in a controlled manner in a contolled period of time, thus achieving this so called herd immunity, but previously that worked in conjunction with a vaccine being given at the onset of the disease and the herding was to protect those that hadn't been vaccinated or those more vulnerable in society?
Don't worry about the supermarkets,Scruffy is now producing milk on an industrial scale and i have plenty of chicken soup to bring to you. just supply the bog paper and we will have a party, xx
I'm going to chime in from the U.S. Gulf Coast, where it is sunny and 83 degrees. The pub down the street is holding its annual St. Pat's bash with multiple bands, streets blocked off and the crowds are huge. They must not fear the virus, but I do as a member of the dodgy lung club. I just bought buckets of gin and vodka at the liquor store. Staples, you know. Earlier in the day I spent the same amount on dog food. Seriously. Can't starve the pups, though they are rather large ones. Now I'm off to the grocery store to see if anything is left on the shelves. I'm more than a bit worried about this thing. Washing of hands is becoming tedious. Best wishes to all.
Challny,if you ever awaken from your gin and vodka induced coma you will be armed with sufficient scientific knowledge gained from the dodgy lung club to stay alive a few days more but the burden of the headache may be harder to survive.Enjoy your party.
Hi my people, now I will tell you how I was able to rise to good money. I was able to go from $ 20 to $ 200,000 in 2 months. When I was young, I wanted to have a good income with minimal investment. So I decided to ask people on the forums for the best casino site. And I saw that people write about the Boost Casino website. Everyone writes that on this site you can easily climb, because there are a large number of games. And I followed the link. When I clicked on the link boostcasino.com/ and decided to play, I almost immediately won $ 100. I recommend this site to everyone.
Alrite Skis 👋. Um am I being thick or is the herd thing actully just giving up and leting evrybody catch it?
The hospitals won't have more money or beds in the summer cos they've never got eny money anyway. What hapens if some of the herd r people like my sister what could die from it? She won't get imune she'll just die.
I don't get any of it it's like this film I saw about a zombie apoclelips with people killing each other for toilet rolls or milk.
I bet they close the schools in the Easter holidays 2 so its not relly closing them, just pretending 2 😧 x
I am sorry my post alarms you Jerry and i will explain more in a personal message later.i hope and believe that as already proven the youngest in society are more likely to have a better immune reaction to the virus and that even includes Willow, though we will make sure that she gets extra special care with her existing condition.
You youngsters will hopefully ride this out with just a mild dose of a flu like virus and in effect become the herd that protects old gits like me,but what you say about the current health system is an alarmingly clever observation for one so young.
Prof John Edmunds was on the channel 4 prog earlier. He’s from the London School of Hygiene &Tropical Medicine, a background in public health & epidemiology I believe. He seemed to be saying there are different types of herd immunity ie that from vaccination which requires a very high no of people to have developed antibodies, & that which occurs at the peak of an epidemic, when “susceptibles” start to run out, which requires a much lower number. At least I THINK that’s what he said but he was on with an excitable young man from Silicon Valley whose histrionics made it difficult to concentrate! But I’ve seen Prof Edmunds on Newsnight twice before & he seemed to talk a lot of sense (tho he could be talking rubbish & at this stage I’m not sure I’d know the difference!)
Judging by his appearance i was not overly impressed and he looks like he has his own health problems for one so young, the jury is out on this one and i personally am not convinced by his arguments, but the decision has been made and to a certain extent we are the guinea pigs in an experiment that i hope succeeds.i am afraid they could have picked a better opponent and as you say the American chap was somewhat ott with his histrionics.
I am not trying to raise alarm or release any cats out of bags and to a certain extent i don't hold with some of your views about a government who i certainly didn't vote for but that is neither here nor there but i thought the article might enlighten some about a strategy that certainly hasn't been explained very well by this government who i believe are putting all their eggs in just one basket.
It is something out in the public domain, are you really so naive to think that others cannot find it in the weeks to come? The problem is with the Gov keeping their plans a secret, why do they not come clean and straight to the point? The reports of 111 being next to useless do not help, basically leaving us to our own devices. When this is all over are Boris et al are going to survive the fallout that will surely come. At the end of the day you do not really know anymore than I do, or any of us. We had the wool pulled over our eyes once before with "the evidence of mass destruction", nobody at the time thought that could possibly happen either. At the end of the day it is our human right to life, that is the law still.
I am not naive enough to enter into a period of debate with you where you try to bully the replier into submission to your every idea and i appreciate your concerns as i do others.so i guess i will use one of your now famous expressions.end off.
I think you are slightly out of order putting that link on the site and i am disappointed as i held you in greater respect for all the important information you normally put on the site.just my opinion but a bit ott me thinks,
No more over the top than the utter bull and deception that HMG is currently putting out. I do not take kindly to being treated as a guinea pig by anyone, period.
Not being 'on,' for a while, I have no idea what is going on 'over there.' What is this "herd" thing? During the Presdent's news conference yesterday, a question was asked about extending the ban on travel to include the U.K. , mentioning that a couple of hundred more cases have been identified over there? As for myself, I am responsible for 'me,'. So I have self-isolated, even though we have no known C-19 within a couple hundred miles. I have made known to family and friends that I want no unnecessary visitors; I have jig-saw puzzles and books enough to get me into the next dimension. J
Never mind an answer; I just read The Guardian article regarding WHO's thought on BJ's plan. I really thought that BJ was wiser than this. Nope! Doesn't sound a good plan for the members of this forum. For all my friends here, I hope all will self-isolate. J
When I see those two idiotic doctors and their herd Immunity. I feel insulted.
I feel as if am listening to Mengele and Himmler. They make it feel that living is pointlessl. Still, not the first time has used scientists, who ve been found out.
Why does the UK feel it knows better than the rest of the world
Its about time, the UK govt got a grip; do the lockdowns, ditched these two cranks, manage toilet rolls, retailers and started acting as if they do want to get through the pandemic.
Now am going to focus on my stockpile of chocolate digestive biscuits this morning.
I have been listening to all the experts critisising the government's decision on their last Cobra meeting. Like you Skis I was not happy to say the least. I also found some information on the WHO that contradicted the decision. The WHO said "Do Not Let the Fire Burn!" I posted it on other social media sites. I read in the Guardian last night that the government has decided to stop all events with large numbers and make some social distancing changes because Football clubs, Rugby Clubs private event venues and Care Homes had decided to take action themselves and stop now, not believing in the government's strategy..... So maybe some help for you to know. To ease the worries and know that 'people ain't so daft' 💚 Herd immunity schmoonity!
That love my dear Cassy comes at great expense both to my wallet, furnishings and the ability to type without a cat on the lap or having to push aside the hair on the keyboard. xxx
Part of my duties in the hospital was infection control. Basically I was the liaison between the infection control team and the wards. In the 15 years in that role I gained a fair knowledge of the subject. Must infections in hospitals are harmless to the general community. However to those with problems with immune systems, serious illnesses they can be lethal. Never once as any expert within infection control suggested getting everybody infected to see if we can gain immunity. Basically we knew that a lot of people would die. So in answer to your question I would say herd immunity is B#######Ks. If your notice the advisors are nearly all academics who work with paper and figures. Must people I know in the medical world are telling me to dig in take cover and do not come out until it is over. I talked to my brother yesterday. He is ex military and now works as a paramedic. He said that shortly more ambulances are going to be in cleaning than actually working. After carrying a suspected virus patient each ambulance needs to be terminally disinfected which takes five hours wearing full PPE gear. How he is going to cope when the herd is infected is an open question. You do not need to be good at maths that there will be few ambulances on the road. The government do not think about practical issues at all!
Do you know where herd immunity comes from. When the British first introduced cattle into south Africa both the lions and the Teste fly had a real party. By killing most of them. A Dutch man then had a bright idea. He deliberately let his cattle be bitten by the fly. Those that did not die were known as salted cattle. When they then started to breed them the immunity was passed on and gradually herd immunity happened. Basically it only happen after killing lot of cattle.
Broadly speaking, both you skis and 2greys are right. I have posted a thread above concerning soft and hard paternalism. The perceived inaction of the current government is alarming, whilst the herd immunity concept is fallacious and may lead to more harm than we might be able to cope with.
I think they are happy to bump some of us non productives off! The majority will get covid and be ok thus able to continue with building a capitalist society!
My humble opinion is that the government are doing it right. They are not overreacting but have plans ready if needed. It's no good running around like headless chickens, that, doesn't solve anything. Just my opinion.
Sadly I cannot agree. Taking China as an example. They first ignored the problem. They then made a limited response. Their only success at control was when they took the draconian measures necessary to stop infection. Sadly the huge risk with this virus is mutation. Herd immunity only and I quote the expert gives a degree of immunity. He talks about the virus reappearing next year however like flu it will mutate and like a new strain of flu any immunity from the last strain will have limited value.
The media will certainly sensationalise this as much as they can, and the politicians everywhere will sometimes use it for their own selfish ends.
Nobody can say they know which country has the right approach.
I am happy that the UK is looking at a long term model. A short sharp aggressive approach may keep the virus at bay in the short term but will they repeat another lockdown this coming winter?
UK, according to the experts, are trying the herd immunity modelling ie. letting the younger healthier adults get the virus (80% mildly ill) and will go on and have immunity. Think measles vaccination, once a vast majority are immune the disease disappears as there’s no one to pass it on.
Let’s hope the scientists and health care professionals working on this are allowed to do what they do best.
Chinese officials denied the human to human transmissibility of the virus for weeks, detained doctors for “spreading rumours,” and barred World Health Organisation officials from entering the country. And then had to admit the scale of the Wuhan epidemic.
If they had acted sooner maybe none of this fear mongering would exist.
I don't think gambling is a big mistake. I know that there are a lot of people that lost their houses and even wives in games but this is just they can't control themselves. In my opinion, if you can't control yourself in the game, you can't control yourself in the real life. I usually play on slotsandgames and there are a lot of casinos and games, but I understand what are my limits, and I understand when I need to stop. For example, when I enter a game and see that I lose several times in a row I understand that it is not my day and come back later.
