Can anybody say whether inhaling Himalayan Salt crystals does anything to help with Emphysema or Bronchiactacis please?

I have lifelong bronchiectasis. I have tried himalayan salt crystals in inhalers and lamps. They did nothing for me. Nebulising saline is very effective for me. We are all different though and it might be worth trying.

Thank you for replying I asked due to seeing an advert for an inhaling machine at £30 and did not want to waste that sort of money if nothing was going to work very well. I am very sceptical of adverts on FB.

I think that is wise.

I've had 2 salt lamps and as you say Don they are nice but I found mine attracted water that collected in the plates I stood them on , so much I had to stop using them as I was concerned ....water and electricity lol are not a safe mix! 🙏😱🌂

in reply toGladwyn

Strange, never heard of that happening before.

It doesn't seem to happen to anyone else! I can't work out why it happens as the house isn't damp but sure enough in a day or so the dish I stand it on is wet, it's the salt melting I think as salt attracts water .... here it does anyway ! I am quite close to the sea so maybe that's it. 😪

in reply toGladwyn

I'm thinking it's the plates causing the condensation rather than the lamp, they will be warming up from the heat of the lamp and cooling down when it's switched off. Stand it on a paper napkin rather than the plates and see what happens.

I threw the lamps out . I don't think it was the plates as the salt lamp itself was damp to the touch ... must have been the atmosphere .... . If I keep salt in a cardboard type packet in a cupboard for any length of time the salt gets damp. Yet the house doesn't register as damp😀

I use the Salt Pipe every day , part of my Breathing Exercises. Have done for 5 years, helps along with Oxygen & Meds. Can't hurt to try it , but do it properly , the instructions are there. Good Luck XXX

It does state to be used for 15 minutes a day and to be honest I doubt I would sit and do it for that long I would get very bored and end up thinking of what I could be doing if I was not sat there on the nebuliser, which is down right silly I know but that's me, but thanks for your reply as it was helpful

Hi Hun, I break the time up, When I do my stats in the Morning along with Breathing exercises I use mine for about 5 mins, I do have time at the early hour. I do my Other Chores for the rest of the day, then another 5 mins later in the day or evening, don't always do the 15 mins, it is a bit long, I agree. But I feel it helps. Love C. XXX

That would be a much better way to do it, I just assumed it was a continuous 15 minutes

Hi gingermusic, I have never tried a salt lamp or inhaler but I go to a salt cave once a week for a 1 hour salt therapy session and have found that it has been very helpful in stabilising my peak flow.

I have salt through a nebuliser every day and it helps bring up lots of sputum. It’s not hymalain salt though

I have a salt pipe, and it definitely helps my Bronchiectasis. I need to use it for 30 minutes. Also use saline in a nebuliser.

I find a salt pipe and salt lamp helpful when I have a cold.

Thank you

I have tried practically all the"Miracle Aids" out there and came to the conclusion that I'd just wasted an awful lot of money. If there was anything that works I'm sure the BLF would let us know.

I use a nebulizer with a 3% saline solution for 15 minutes twice day, and think it helps me clear out the mucous. I'm lazy and just watch TV while doing it----just as soon do that as do housework, but wish I liked to work cause my house sure needs it.

It almost killed me! Slight exaggeration perhaps but having salt/saline in a nebulizer in Hospoital was found to be highly detrimental to me as it further reduced my already 23% lung capacity. For many it seems to help but just be aware that a test in the company of your respiratory team is strongly advised.

Thank you I think I have already decided against using one

I use a ceramic salt pipe breathe it in through my mouth and out through my nose x 5 times at night.supposed to be cleansing. I think it helps as I only get infections now in the winter since I started it. But can’t swear it’s that it does however stop post nasal drip I’ve not had this at all since using it ( 2 years now) worth a try ?

Thank you however I have decided against it
