Bronchiectasis, asthma and sinus problems

Hi everyone, as newly diagnosed with bronchiectasis and asthma I've really appreciated all the advice I've received. I'm regularly taking zinc and gargling to save my voice after taking Relvar! A new query, every morning I'm experiencing mucus problems, back of the nose into my throat which I try to clear. Sometimes sinus pain. I assume this is related somehow to the bronchiectasis, any suggestions of dealing with this would be great plus why? Is it related to the original virus that caused all my problems. Thank you new friends.

Hi LizPat! What happens to me is my sisus's start draining in the back of my throat. Then...I will use the Nebalizer about 3 times a day to try to break it up. Along with MUCUS RELIEF! I try to combat it before it goes into my lungs and gives me bronchitis. If ! didn't catch it in time...my mucus turns green, then I know I am infected ,needing a antibiotic! A lot of times I will ask for LEVI QUIN 750. That antibiotic is broad, so it helps my urinery track infections also. Hope this helps JANET 127

Have you tried neilmed sinus rinse? A lot of my chest infections start in my sinuses. I see an ENT doctor and he insists I use it daily although I only use it when I feel it will help. You can get them on amazon or eBay but make up your own solution as per the nhs website.

Thank you Mooka, I wondered about a sinus rinse but wasn't sure if this helped. I'll go ahead and get this now.

Hi LizPat30, after my last bad infection with bronchiectasis it left all my sinus's infected and that took a long time to get over. I am still waiting for a sinus op and am hoping I will get my sense of smell back. The ent surgeon put me on a long low dose of antibiotics for 6 weeks which helped alot.

I now use Sterimar nasal wash twice a day and a nasal spray if my sinus's are blocked. If things start getting out of hand with too much mucus then I take antihistamine. I found that once my sinus's got infected the exacerbations made my chest really bad and couldnt get that under control, so now I try to make sure it doesnt get to that stage. I was using a box of tissues every couple of days and coughing up all day, it was horrid. I hope these tips help x

Hi LizPat30, I too have sinus problems as well as asthma and Bronch. I too use Sterimar which I find is really good for clearing out my sinuses and for getting rid of any phlegm that may be stuck at the back of the throat. Prevention is definitely better than cure when it comes to keeping my sinuses clear. This year I have only had sinusitis twice and no problems with my asthma and bronch, I put it down to being aware of other people coughing, not going into large crowds for crowded pubs etc. and washing hands with antibacterial wash. Hope this helps. Take care, Maximonkey

Thank you so much for replying, can you tell me exactly which sterimar you use. I searched on sterimar and got confused which to buy.

Hi LizPat, I use the allergy one, however, I have used the original sterimar sinus wash. They both keep my sinuses clear. Any large chemist sells Sterimar. Take care, Maximonkey
