A disgusting classroom experiment has demonstrated the importance of washing hands this winter time.
Using loaves of bread, a class of pupils from a school in Idaho, in the USA, demonstrated just how unhygienic and damaging it can be to skip hand-washing.
It does amaze me how some people don’t wash their hands. When I’ve been to the bathroom, or in a public place, or handling money where I work, I desperately feel the need to wash my hands! I know modern society can be too overly sanitised but even when I was a child I was taught to wash my hands properly. That bread really does look disgusting! 🍞
I always have a small bottle of antibacterial wash with. When we go to the hospital I always use my antibacterial (hubby too) as we enter. They should have one by the door as you enter and have someone nearby to encourage you to use it. It always amazes when you go on to a ward to visit someone how so many people dont bother. Some people can be lazy it only takes a second to use some people dont think.
;when i working prepared some demonstrations for Infection Control ---fingerprints on petri dishes and incubated overnight that surprised even me. Before washing and after washing hand. I hope the trainee nurses appreciated our efforts.
I have always been a over handwasher...with the hottest water singing the birthday song 3 times...my hands are always a mess, plus I use antibacterial when out.
Scary. They tick me off at the surgery nagging you to use the automatic sign in. One said ‘it’s very easy’ like I was in my dotage. I told her I knew but the last thing I want to do in a docs surgery is press a screen where numerous ill folks have been using. The other day she said ‘why don’t you use the screen’ to which I replied ‘I have enough germs of my own thanks’. Are they looking to do themselves out of a job!
Quite opposite. New system at our surgery. You can only book an appointment 2 weeks and 3 days in advance. Otherwise you phone in and might be given a n appointment time period. One hour and it is "Wait and See" you are allowed one problem and you see whoever is available.
In the meantime you still use the screen . Then you sit and iwith all the the other urgent patients and absorb all their bugs!
One refinement on this ---if you are infectious then the receptionist will put you in a separate room!
Today the news letter in the waiting room had 2 A4 sides devoted to mental well being.
As a bronchiectasist I complained to practice manager and this was gnored.
I was asked if I would like to join the patient panel !
What do you think about joining the patient panel. Sounds to me they could do with your input if you feel up to it.
It’s very sad the way surgeries are going. I am sure the GPs themselves don’t like it. If I have more than one thing I just say I have two things to see you about so I’ll crack on, and I do. It is well known that many patients talk about one thing before then asking about the thing which is really worrying them.
I know things are bad and moral is low but 2 weeks 3 days. Blooming ‘eck, no wonder A&E is feeling the brunt.
Not confident the blonde one will do much to improve things but we will have to see.
Let us know if you do join the patient panel. It would be really interesting to know more about it.
I'm a member of our surgery's Patient Participation Group, and we did raise the issue of germs on the signing in screens. Nothing appears to have been done. Personally, I wear gloves when out and about, which helps to protect me from the bugs everywhere.
Eeew yuk! why dont parents drum this into their kids. I wear gloves now when out and have a hand santiser with me. My gp surgery dont have one on the wall which would help, I may suggest this next time Im there. I am also aware that you shouldnt touch your eyes or nose when out as this can spead infections, somebody posted this info on here so thank you x
