Have done my PR course - recommend it -the ladies were lovely who put you through your paces - went in with thoughts that this will do me no good - but it did & i am going to try & keep it up - it did me good & would recommend it - so much so that hopefully I will be able to have another course next year - give it a go, you won't be disappointed - the hardest thing is keeping it up after! So for anyone who has had lung cancer & COPD give it go.
PR COURSE: Have done my PR course... - Lung Conditions C...
PR COURSE
I agree. I really got a lot out of the course, and felt that I would be able to cope. But as you say doing the exercises afterwards is hard, not hard to do but getting motivated, really must try harder lol. Jane
Of course it does you good, remaining active and exercise is all important. I have been on my feet all day working full-time (production engineer) since being diagnosed, pushing myself to the limit for the last 3 1/2 years and still doing now even after Lung Cancer (now in remission). Huge benefits both physically and mentally.
Young in mind? I am only 17 and will always be 17 despite being 69 with 28% Lung function.
I keep active by putting my make up on and dressing up every day. I go out even if it rains to shopping centres etc which are undercover. Walking around window shopping is great fun and great exercise. I can stop and have a break and chat to people better than sitting at home. You don't need a Gym to exercise just get up and go..
Glad you enjoyed and benefited so much from your course Younginmind.
Some areas have follow up weekly 'maintenance sessions' for graduates of the PR course - mine really keeps me on track. We pay £4 a session as it's extra to the NHS standard provision. The people there are great as they are all the kind of people who want to take control of their lives and their lung conditions so it inspires me. And some of us get together afterwards for a coffee as there's a cafe in the venue we use.
When they have to cancel a session - staff shortages or illness - I miss it and find I dont exercise as much the rest of the week which kind of proves the sessions really do help keep me motivated.
No reason why anyone shouldnt suggest to their physiotherapy team that they too could run these sessions. They are run all over East Kent and the money we pay goes for hire of the hall. In the end it must keep us healthier, so saving the NHS money. Win-win
Hope you manage to maintain your exercise. I find a walk -gentle or brisk - helps to clear the mind and body x
Thank all for your comments O2trees that is very helpful - I will suggest it. Was a good girl today & did my workout! Keep it up all of you - we will keep going.
Just started a repeat of physio course and realise walking every day is not enough. It is very beneficial to strengthen particular muscles which soon deteriorate if not worked on. I am really feeling much stronger as result of a proper gentle workout.
