Strange feeling
From your description it sounds like it could just be ectopic beats, which are common and not considered to be a problem, but, for your peace of mind if nothing else it needs to be properly addressed by a gp, ie blood pressure monitored, thyroid fully checked, etc at least. Once those are fully tested depending on results should dictate what ,if anything, needs to be addressed.
Hello, I was so interested reading your post as the same thing happened to me 25 years ago. I felt a sort of flutter in my heart which made me take in my breath each time it happened. Different doctors listened to my heart and heard nothing. One said it was probably the medication I was taking, another said most people experience it from time to time. I knew something wasn't right and was lucky to see another doctor who took the time to wait and listen with his stethoscope. Nothing happened for nearly five minutes, then WHAM it happened. Got it, he said. The relief was so amazing. I was referred to a cardiologist who found out I had two leaky heart valves and an enlarged heart. I was put on medication and haven't experienced the strange palpitations since. Apparently the sensations or flutter I experienced was the heart missing a beat and catching up as it was out of sync. I have lived with this ever since with no problems, but at least the original problem was diagnosed.
Thanks for this l am having my annual spirometry this week so will bring it up
At least l now feel it's not just me. 😁👍
Good luck, the earlier something is picked up the better. Armed with information and a little confidence to question what is being said should prove to be an advantage. We only have one life and want to enjoy it as best we can. Dont be fobbed off, it could be important for your future to get it diagnosed.
I have something similar and was given a 24 hour heart monitor by the hospital as part of the cardiac checks. Nothing serious found, just a slightly enlarged upper right heart chamber indicating my lung problem. The irregularity does mean I can't be prescribed some medications, such as metoclopramide, which could make it worse.
I had been to my GP and had often mentioned my palpitations but he found nothing. Then one day I went with a chest infection and as he was listening to my chest he heard it for himself. After that it was all sorts of tests at the hospital and the result was that I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation for which I now take medication. The cardiologist told me that failure to treat it could have increased my chance of having a stroke. I would suggest you need to have a monitor on for a week as that was what finally picked mine up at the hospital - the ecg came out fine. xx Moy
I have had the same issue for many years. First I was told to quit smoking, which I did, with no change. Then I was told to quit caffeine, which I did, with no change. It does seem to come and go to a degree, or perhaps sometimes it just isn’t as noticeable. I was told it is a pretty common thing and not harmful, but it can also be an indication of more serious problems so always best to have it checked out. It feels like a skipped beat but often is two beats really close together and then a pause long enough to account for the premature beat.
