Has anyone else taken this? My friend has had asthma all her life and has just been given these.Seemingly, they are a brand new drug. She hasn't been well on them and is going back to her GP . I wondered if anyone else had experienced this?

Hi, they're not brand new for sure. I've been taking 10mg daily for 6+ years with no ill effect. I recall when 1st prescribed my then gp told me that they're commonly given to children for the allergic aspect of asthma.

Look at the 'Related Post' window on this page and you'll find more information on it. P

Not new!

"Montelukast was first approved for clinical use by the US FDA in 1998 as Merck's brand name Singulair. The medication is a member of the leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA) category of drugs."

Hi Aingeful I have been on it for a few years and I seem to be ok. I take mine before I go to bed that’s what I was told to do.

I must be lucky in not having any side effects. Some nasty side effects there though.

Same here 7yrs

I was on Montelukast for many, many years without any issues, then I was diagnosed with bronx. At that point it was removed from my regimen and other medications added in. My consultant then tried to re-introduce Montelukast/Singulair but my body couldn't tolerate it. We tried several brands as I had been treated successfully in the past, to no avail. It may not be the Montelukast specifically that is causing the problems but the combination of medications being taken. Speak to your prescribing doctor and also speak to the GP pharmacist to try and identify any conflicts in the medications both prescribed and over the counter.

Hi Aingeful,

I am taking this medication at the moment and have had no serious problems with it. Saying that Montelukast doesn't suit everyone and your friend is right going back to her GP. I do hope everything turns out well. As a retired nurse I know how serious Asthma can be.

All the best to you both.

Thanks, she has stopped taking them. She also had problems with a new inhaler. When I looked at the list of side effects, irritability is one of them. I can vouch for that, shes like a bear with a sore ****!! :-) :-)

Hi Aingeful, I have taken Montelukast tabs for 7 years now with no ill effects. They do help me to avoid having asthma episodes, as I did not take them on holiday with me once and within two days my breathing was raspy and harsh. Tell you friend it is probably not this tablet that is making her feel unwell. She should go back and speak to her doctor. Take care Maximonkey
