So, I've been really trying to walk every morning. Today, I did almost 4 miles. Four miles seems to be my "wall." But, still, not bad. My real problem, my biggest problem, is this throat-clearing I've got when I got to bed. I just constantly clear my throat until I eventually fall asleep. Very frustrating. Does anyone else deal with this? I see my pulmonologist for the first time in a while next week, so maybe she can figure this out.

Throat clearing
Wow i think thats pretty impressive. Dont think i could walk for 4 miles. Keep going pal
Well I certainly couldn't walk 4 miles so well done but then again I do have chronic back pain now too! x
Does the throat clearing happen only once you’ve gone to bed? Do you lie down flat? If so, maybe try being more upright with the help of several pillows or cushions, or an adjustable back rest if you have one. I have about 9 pillows. Sitting more upright really helps 😴
I quit smoking 25 years ago. It eventually catches up with you. I took a Claritin, and maybe that will help. It's so annoying at night; makes it hard to fall asleep when you're always clearing your throat. Good to hear from you, RedSox . PS: I only walked 4 miles, and that's the longest I've done in a couple of years.
Well done on your 4 mile walk!
Wow thats great that you can walk 4 miles, although I think I do that somedays just going up and down the stairs ha! Perhaps an hour before going to bed try clearing your lungs, either doing the huff method or breathing steam with your head over a bowl, an acapello, whichever device you have, it may help to clear your throat before going to bed x
Good to hear from you Challny and we’ll done for walking 4 miles. That’s great. Has your sciatica finally improved? Don’t know about the throat clearing but I’m sure you’ll get some good advice from others. Take care and keep on with the exercise.
Best wishes

Takes me all my time to walk half a mile, though I hope to improve on this as I have just taken up the BLF program Active Steps. The support you to get more active .
I never smoked, but have late onset asthma and COPD, and constantly have to clear my throat of thin mucous. My consultant actually describes it as a cough and has (finally) prescribed montelucast, which I found ineffective. I use N-Acetyl cysteine, which I get from a health shop. Fortunately, it doesn't trouble me at night but the advice on pillows might be useful in future.
Hi if you mean you have a lot of phlegm on your chest and constantly coughing it up, I started taking carbocisteine and they really help with thinning and clearing the mucus off your chest, keep going with the walking it's best thing to help your chest I walk every day too x
Are you walking 5 miles? If so that is really good? How long does it take you to walk 5 miles?
Walking 4 miles is pretty impressive. How long has it taken you to work up to that distance? What stage is your COPD?
Now I feel like I was bragging, because I rarely do 4 miles. More like 2-3. But this throat-clearing is driving me mad; I cannot get any sleep at all. My stage at last test was moderate, but I think I've gone downhill some in the last year.
Serrapeptase has fixed my throat clearing problem. I suggest you research it.
You must take your inhalers with you I noticed you never mentioned that.
I wish I could walk 4 miles I’m certainly that’s a bit far. Have you Tried Trimbow
That will clear your throat. Ask your GP
