Sorry, I didn't look before posting my message, I can see there is already a listed topic relative to air purifiers and dehumidifiers. I will do some homework and have a read.

Thank you.

Hi Dids 49 I too requested info on Air Purifiers a few weeks ago .I looked into all the pros & cons, prices ,filters .It depends on the amount of time you will use it what you need from it and how deep your pockets are .I looked at the Dyson but someone in another group informed me that Hull hospital had taken there's off the wards plus I wasn't willing to pay over £400 plus £50 for filters every 3 to 6 month I have now purchased a low priced( £117) air purifier from Bionaire model bap 1700 .I have to say after 2weeks quite pleased .It has an auto function Soo I can set it and it comes on very low only boosting when it detects impurities in the air ,on the 1st setting it can run all night in the bedroom without any disturbance. It has a separate ioniser which I don't use as this I'm told can be detrimental to my lungs .,it's Hepa type filters only need a good hoover as they have a long life span if cleaned regularly even though it does not have carbon filters as some do it still does to freshen the air from any cooking or pet smells .I can tell the difference in air quality when it's on .It uses around 70watts of power so no more than a regular lightbulb.

I purchased it because 2 weeks before I was diagnosed with lung disease I had purchased a pair of Kakarikis ( small parrots) the specialist has frowned upon my purchase and advised me to get rid of them .Now I have been an animal lover all my life and I am not the type of person to abandon pets no matter what . So now I wear a mask when cleaning out the large cage and the air purifiers does a fantastic job enabling me to hopefully keep them .

I in no way wish to influence you on your choice just wanted to give you an insight to a brand I have personally found to work for me and my circumstance.

Have a great day 😄

Thank you Kakariki. I also looked at the Dyson but thought it was an awful lot of money if it didn't have a fair few advantages over other makes. My line of thought being to try a moderately priced one and if it does a good job consider the Dyson for the future but with the knowledge that some hospitals have removed them I will think very carefully. I do have 2 Dyson fans and have been pleased with them.

Your Bionaire model sounds pretty efficient so I will read some reviews on that one, thank you.

I am very aware of the dust and fluff etc from my tabby cat but getting rid of him isn't an option. I have lost my husband and live alone and he at least keeps the place alive with lots of love and fuss.

Thanks for the information, it is appreciated.

I have a Fellowes which I love but it’s the THIRD as previous two didn’t last. (Fellowes replaced one for free however.) It also has an auto function, you should hear it fire up if I use hairspray - in another room!! Has carbon and hepa filters. Shame about the long term reliability.

Thank you, I will check them out. Good that you can hear the response when needed.

I have severe asthma and bought a Dyson air purifier in 2016 and it has made summers a lot more bearable as it filters out a lot of pollen and pollution, the one I have has an app which tells you air quality level but I think the newer ones give a read out of what exactly it is reacting to (pollen, PM10s, etc) which would very useful if you have specific allergies. They are pricey but well worth it in my opinion.

Thank you for the information. Looks like I have lots of homework to do. I have 2 Dyson fans that are excellent.

are they fans or purifiers? I think Dyson do both.

Yes, Dyson do make both. I have 2 of the Dyson 'cool' bladeless fans which are fantastic.

I don't have a known allergy but my cat is losing a fair bit of his coat and I thought a purifier may help with my severe emphysema. I am struggling to breathe and probably clutching at straws - like we do !!!
