Hi its Alice here , saw my gp yesterday who gave me water pills for my swollen feet ,anckles , I go for ecg on the 23rd Monday, I think ecg will be looking for heart failure, I am just thinking if heart failure causes fluid around lungs and heart ,and if I take the water pills now six days before ecg will I have a false reading because I have got rid of the fluid, am I making sense, what I'm trying to say is they may say there is no fluid around heart ,so no heart failure ,or doesn't it work like that ,meaning if there is no fluid around heart would they still see if something is wrong ,I am worried that if I take water pills now I will get a false reading

Hi Alice,
I think you should not discontinue any medication unless advised to do so. Perhaps you could ring and ask for advice beforehand? Failing that, please let them know all the medication you are on currently. I hope it goes okay and your feet are less swollen. I remember a while back you were suffering quite a bit, perhaps the diuretics are helping?
Take good care,

Caspiana you are so helpful to us folks on here ,like me I am sure we all appreciate it ,you and so many others are little gems thank you ,yes I was given frusomide some weeks ago ,but didn't take them as they gave me ringing in ears dizzy and feeling sick ,so I did without until gp gave me different ones yesterday which I am just about to try ,after reading little pom answer ,little pom another gem
The ecg is looking for an abnormal heart rate or rhythm, not fluid in the lungs or around the heart. The water pills should help to remove some of the build up of fluid that may be happening if you have these heart problems. Don’t worry.
Hi liitlepom thanks for your reply , can you tell me is a ecg a heart scan ,I've just taken first water tablet ,do read my reply to caspiana , I thing these swollen feet ankles are due to a build up of long term steroid inhailers ,as I no steriod tablets can give you swollen feet
I take furosamide occasionally. No an ecg is not a heart scan. It just measures tge pace that your heart beats at and any irregular rhythm. Based on that they may do an echo cardiogram where you can see how your heart is performing. Just at work now so will come back later if you want
