Welcome Yond, you’re among friends. Xxxx
Welcome to the message boards
Hello and welcome 😊
It is normal to feel shocked and worried but try and stay positive. It’s important to keep yourself as healthy as possible and stop smoking if you still do. You are among friends here so it’s a good place to ask questions rather than google which can give you false information. Good luck with your CT scan.
Welcome you'll be ok here lots of knowledgeable people bit scary to start with but after a time you'll be fine
This is a great community, welcome. I have been off line for a while and forgot how supportive everyone is. Regards
Welcome Yond, your reaction is perfectly normal, just get your CT scan done and your medication sorted out and this is the place to be, there are lots of lovely people on here with answers to any question you can think of about COPD. When i was first diagnosed I was guided by the members on this site and now live as near normal a life as possible, so ask away, someone will have the answer, good luck and stay in touch
T😁👍👍
Welcome Yond, it is a scary time, but the more you understand COPD the easier it will be for you to move on with your life. You need a good rapport with your doctor and respiratory nurse. You need to keep as active as you can. Once you have the meds that agree with you and get into a daily routine, you will be fine. I am early stages and had to retire, but I decided I needed help and motivation to get fitter, so I got a pup, it's the best thing I ever did, we now walk between 1-5 miles each day depending on the weather.
I think what I am trying to say is, this isn't the end, you can live a nearly normal life!
Any questions you have will be answered on here, by people who have been through it.
When you see your specialists, make sure you get all your questions answered and write down anything you are unsure of. Keep a record of all the results to your tests.
You will be fine, take care.
Steve.
Welcome Yond
It's about three years since my diagnosis, but I still remember how utterly shocked and depressed and angry I was . I googled some of the worst info ("you're finished") , heard a few "well you did smoke for over 10 years", was identified as an Alpha1 carrier , and basically didn't really deal for a month. Then I had a glass of wine, went after better info, and became a believer in Pulmonary Rehab( I went to PR2 and am on my 6th round of PR3).
I still yearn for the days I could take a deep cleansing breath and complete a successful yawn but with the meds (Breo and Incruse) , better eating , staying away from cold sufferers, and exercise I'm pretty good. I no longer can walk 7 to 12 miles but I can accept doing 4 to 6 miles with pursed lip breathing and a few stops for coffee and a quick read.
Please believe we do know how you feel but that there is still life after an emphysema diagnosis. As I've now heard often (and it does make me feel better) it's more likely you will die with emphysema than from it. Good luck and welcome.
Hi Yond and welcome to the site, there are plenty of people on here with copd that will give you good advice x
Thank you all very much 😊
