Hi peppy05, I'm Alison.

I used to do that extra breath, I have in the past year been diagnosed with copd. I've had it 7years.it usually happens with asthma or lung problems. Chin up.

I do it too.

I think it's because sometimes, we are unconsciously, holding our breathe or are breathing to shallow until, eventually, our lungs make us take a deeper breath.

Yes I do that, I don't think it's anything worrying. Something else I seem to do more and more is swallow the wrong way which then results in a fit of coughing !!

Hi peppy when I had copd on my mind because of slow recovery from pneumonia and quilt of being a smoker for many many years plus a low spirometry result I was very aware of the extra breath. It was mostly when I was sat down relaxing or watching tv but since I’ve put copd at the back of my mind and rarely think about it I don’t get the extra breaths. When I mentioned it to GP he said I wasnt breathing deep enough and to remember to take a decent breath now and then take care xxx
