No breath

Hi everyone, still struggling since the dog attack and breathing very up and down. I have a question I hope somebody can answer as I am really worried. I have had this once before after trying trimbow (never again). I got to the top of the stairs and my breathing just went completely, started breathing rapidly hard in and out, muscles went underneath but luckily I was by the toilet (sorry) but I couldn't for the life of me slow it down and very shaky. Frightened me to death. Eventually it came back very slowly. I couldn't do anything about it and that is what worried me. Please give me your thoughts as its in my mind now if it happens again 😔

So sorry this is still plaguing you. I hope you will have somewhere to sit down if this happens again- it's horrible to be breathless with nowhere to sit. I'm doing a Pilates class which places a lot of emphasis on breathing. i wonder if something similar would help you. Best wishes. xxx

Do u used " controlled breathing technique" going upstairs? Or just get up as best u can ? I ask because it's best to use the technique with pursed lips, deep, slow breathing( info on aluk website), taking Yr time & only going up as fast or slow as Yr breathing allows x I'm wondering if you've had a sort of boom or bust reaction, with adrenaline surge xxxxxxxc

I can sympathise ….sometimes I can manage the stairs , other times waves of panic and breathlessness hit me .

I have tried one step at a time and resting , but still the panic and lack of air can come …and the need for the loo , rapid heart beat too.

Read a new book on panic , and it said ride it out don’t feed it with more adrenaline .

But if you have breathing problems like me , that is so difficult ….past memories of very bad attacks come back to me.

It helps if I have my inhaler , or my small nebuliser nearby …otherwise panic escalates .

I try and regulate my breath….try and slow it down , gentle nose breathe when I can.

Keep reliever at hand , but contact your health professional tomorrow to check you have no infection .

Stress ….memories of the dog attack and the effect it had on you will affect your breathing pattern too …tell your gp what happened .

I have had three infections recently , three lots of doxy and steroids …chest is clearer and stairs easier now .

Best wishes ….ring your health professional tomorrow , and explain your breathlessness episodes .

It's happened to me Mellywelly. it's a bit like Night Terrors, not much you can do until it subsides. Really as much as the stairs it sounds like your state of mind, it happens and you are scared and that making your problem worse..

I have COPD and Asthma but had the same type of attacks you have had, the worse your breathing gets, the more tight you get, It's horrible.

For what you have described not just inhalers - You may need a sedative for a short while to get you over this - I got Diazapam for the same experience.

I may have got your post wrong, if so I apologise,

Maybe you have anxiety, I have similar problem after vandalism in my neighbourd. I would tell this to my GP, get a referal for a psychiatry specialist or psicologyst, they will tell you how to handle that.

I suspect going up the stairs put an additional demand on your muscles which in turn require more oxygen so your heart speeds up as does your breathing to supply that oxygen. That sudden demand creates anxiety which further exacerbates the problem. I’m not a doctor so have no idea if that could be the explanation or not and hopefully you are able to get answers at your appointment on the 22nd.

Good luck tomorrow and I hope they have an explanation and a treatment as that would be an awful experience.
