Vitalograph USB, Serial &Bluetooth Respiratory Monitors

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend which respiratory monitor would be best to buy or even just explain the differences.

I like to monitor myself as it gives me more drive than an 18 monthly appt. with someone who generally speaking isn't very interested, as they seem to believe it's my own fault. They have a point but I am not so judgemental, hence a silent feeling of rebellion on my part.

I had a 30% FEV1 on my last test in November and it is not a big shock to me, however, I'm still quite young - 11 years away from my old age pension thanks to John Major's 1993 legislation, so I am hoping to discipline myself by self monitoring.

I welcome any advice and am sorry to sound so cynical, but not towards anyone on this forum as you have all unwittingly made me feel so much more positive.

My love to you all,

Anng

I use a Vitalograph 1016053 40053 copd-6 (available from Amazon, blow tubes separate order) to measure my FEV1 score, plus an oximeter to measure blood oxygen.

Thank you, Ergendl for responding. I have just checked your recommendation and it has been very helpful in helping me make a decision.

Thanks for your time.

I agree with Efgendl there is a picture of one somewhere in my posts. These are used by many pulmonary clinics now and are easy to use .

Hi I presume you are in the UK? You should have at least an annual appointment with a respiratory nurse. You should also with your FEV1 have been referred to a consultant. x

Hi Hypercat,

Thanks for responding. I was with a lung consultant, or I should say several locums. However, last year, after having never seen him before, he discharged me without any tests, saying I hadn't been ill enough to stay on his lists.

Having read people's experiences on this forum, I don't think he was worth seeing and there are probably better consultants out there, somewhere.

In the meantime, I have had several chest infections and would rather monitor myself than have someone who is completely disinterested. and I suspect incompetent.

I am very grateful for your kind words of advice and I thank you for that - it means a lot to me.
