Wakey-wakey!

I wake up in the morning

I've got a throbbing head

But then I'm very pleased to see

That still I am not dead

I haven't felt like sleep all night

But now I'm really tired

I like to stay in here a while

But my presence is required

I have all these appointments

With folk who say they care

I'd really like to miss them all

But know I wouldn't dare

My eyes will hardly open

My legs just feel like lead

Probably the worst of all

My back's stuck on the bed

I hear you!

Lately I’ve been struggling to get out of bed in the morning. At the weekend I moved my coffee machine to my bedside table. I get it all ready the night before then in the morning I just have to switch it on. Coffee in bed. Very civilised! It’s still hard to get up in the morning and although it’s only been a few days I’m really liking this new regime of coffee in bed.

I've been considering doing that but had concerns that I would have a coffee stained bed. My fingers have no strength in them anymore. My parent's best friend was a 'Teas Maid'.

I’m sorry to hear that 😞 Spilling the coffee in my bed was something I worried about but at the moment i feel it’s a risk worth taking. Maybe when I’ve spilt coffee several times in the bed I’ll be saying something different! ☕️

I'm considering coffee coloured sheets, I have the duvet already. 😀

Why not invest in cups with lids like Costa coffee ones you can usually buy in B and M, or The Ranfe or similar shops.

Hi Hufflepuff well done but next step is to have a microwave and a mini fridge in your bedroom like me since Jan 19 due to losing 2 stone in weight ending up 6 stone.

you would be surprised what quality poached eggs one can make with care in the micro but aslo get the toaster installed

I am now up to 7stone 10 lbs so it works

Happy munching

Am up this am, have to be up and dressed on a Tues am, as the day my carer comes, today I have the added fun of an Amazon delivery (new frying pan!!! oh the joys of life!!!) The only problem of enforced retirement is not being sure what day it is, so have to use the Tues visit and newspapers to try to remember. Have only just realised it it a Bank Holiday on Monday, when I was working would have been waiting for it for weeks.

in reply to SORRELHIPPO

I bought a watch that shows the days of the week for that very reason. Amazon provides a great social service for us oldies. During the winter months when I can't get out much my house slowly fills with near unless gadgets provided by caring Amazon who provide excitement and keep me in touch with the outside world. 🙄

Know that feeling really well. The thing that always drags me out of my bed in the end is the sound of the loo calling. That's the one call I have to respond to as promptly as possible 😉

I can do that without waking up now. It took years of practise. 🤗

Oh Don, just when you could do with a lie in. Hope you’re appointments go well. Xxxx

in reply to sassy59

The hospital here has even started to phone late in the evening to offer appointments on a Saturday morning. I don’t remember that happening before.

My hospital offering scans x rays on a Saturday now. Can now pop in on the way to do the shopping and saves a day during the week so I can be in the garden.

Why is that I toss and turn trying to get comfortable when I go to bed, yet when I wake up in the morning it is the most comfortable place ever!

in reply to Lyd12

I think I’ve lost the art of staying in bed. My dog Midge has got me trained to let her out and then make her breakfast and by then I don’t feel like going back to bed.

Another great one Don....... Sounds like me on a morning.

I have a little travel kettle electric I used to use up stairs for a morning cuppa..... cup with a tea bag in drop milk in a container might dig it out again now the need is greater to get me even functional in a morning .👍🏻 x

You are so funny Don, and we can all relate to your poem. I am up and down most of the night, I think its just a habit I have got into. I tried to analyse why I wake up, think it is the pain from shoulder, then because Im awake I need a wee, an hour later Im coughing, so need another wee and it just goes on, yet when I have had a few glasses of wine, I hardly wake up at all, go figure. If I have an appointment I watch the clock go round then am so tired I can hardly get up. Arent we a funny bunch 😃😃😃
