Hi Paul, this scan is to look for blockages in the pulmonary arteries. It has nothing to do with the diagnosis of bronchiectasis and is more invasive than the ct to diagnose bronch.

I really suggest that you get in touch with the doctor who ordered this scan and ask them why you are down to have a scan which is associated with heart problems when you were expecting a diagnostic scan for bronchiectasis.

I NEVER allow anyone to do a procedure on me unless I know exactly what it entails and what is its purpose.

Thanks its really freaked me out as have been waiting and talking about a lung scan since December. Now this has popped through with no explanation its got me very worried that either its a mistake or that something is going on noone has told me about.

I m due to have an scan of my sinus at the same time ironically, though this was expected. They want to see if an ENT issue us causing the excess mucus which chokes me.

I had a scan on my sinuses years ago. It was very simple, just aimed higher than the lung one. Bunged up sonuses and bronch often go together.

Best thing is to get in touch with the consultant who is looking after you and get it pinned down. It could be an administrative error. If the doctor decided to do this scan when you were expecting a scan of your lungs they should at least have got in touch with you. I have walked out of the scan department before when they wanted to put dye in me which is totally unnecessary for what they need to look for in me.

Concur with missyscarlet best advice is to always check and clarify details before agreeing or declining any invasive procedure. Angiogram is more cardio than pulmonary but of course heart and lung are interlinked.

I had an angiogram scan at the same time as a ct scan for bronchiectasis. What they did was do the lung scan first and then inject the dye for the cardio scan and do that. They may be checking to see whether your bronch has affected your heart, as it can lead to an enlarged heart and pulmonary hypertension, so in fact they are being very careful. Sinuses I know nothing about. However, they should explain it to you and it is certainly worth asking. Good luck xx

Hi, I have had an "Angiogram" when being assessed for Lung Transplant. This is to establish that the Heart is strong enough and there is no Furing also to see the Lung Sizes, I saw it all on Screen, fascinating. I have just had a CT scan again which is Totally different in comparison. This should all be explained to you as missyscarlet says. Good Luck.
