Shower advice for older members.

β€’34 Replies

Having a hot shower

When you have COPD

Can be rather daunting

So careful you must be.

Don't have the water too hot

And aim it at your chest

Having it hit you in the face

Is certainly not the best.

Turn the water off a while

If the steam becomes too thick

If you happen to drop the soap

Don't bend down too quick

Have a stool to sit on

When you get out to dry

Don't get dressed when breathless

Sit a while then try.

Remember whilst you're at it

In the shower or in the bath

Post on here a selfie

To give us all a laugh.

:D This reminds me of when i cared for mum with her emphasema, she had a walk in shower and used to get claustrophobic if the glass door was closed. There was limited space as it was a circular one and the only way i could help her to bathe was by leaving the door open on it . So i used to end up getting as soaked as her !

Youve done it again Don another funny ode. I'm of for a bath soon but a selfie would frighten the readers. I've lost weight so people would be sending food parcels if they saw me.

Another Mr.D classic πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ and showering is probably one of the things that gets my anxiety reaching new levels, even now, years on!

Hi. I thought i was the only person whos anxiety hits the roof when showering or getting a bath !!! Its not even the effort it takes, although it takes everything iv got sometimes lol. Not sure why i get so panicy, but im working on it. This site helps no end with the little things that happen as well as the big xxx love burs xxxx

Hi and at least we know it does effect other folk with lung issues. Like you rightly say,its not the actual washing ones body and hair but that blinking ANXIETY rearing its ugly head and making us feel so terribly unsure of our ability to shower before passing out, lol! Like you I take it slow, open windows, put on air extractor and keep the water.just warm enough not to cause any steam! OMG,I'm making it sound like a form of torture aren't I. I really need to get "a grip" and deal with this.

Loud music helps me sometimes lol. Think uv hit the nail on the head though, passing out before finishing in my case means the embarassment of being found, sans clothing,by whoever comes home 1st, not something i wish on me or them lol. Just have to keep trying lol xxx love burs xxxx

Yes,"trying" is indeed the key word and as long as we continue to try,we're doing ok!

Hope you have a good day.

Don I love your little ditties they make me smile. No chance of a selfie from me I would scare a flipping police horse if I did.

Very good advice. Sit with a dressing gown around me and get my breath back. If you haven't got copd its difficult to understand how much it takes out of you !!

I think these poems of your Don should all be put in a book for "COPD BATHROOM FUNNIES" FOR THOSE THAT ARE STILL YOUNG AT HEART! You would add a book to the World of Lung issues! Go for it Don!

β€’ in reply toJANET127

With a title like that I think people would be expecting something a little spicier than my innocent posts Janet. πŸ™„

Think of a different name! They are too precious, to go down in life, just with our group!

Well I see it differently, HealthUnlocked keep all the messages posted in their massive database for members to search. When people who are desperately ill write to me to say I made them smile, or laugh even, that means more to me than any rewards I would get from elsewhere (which in anycase are doubtful). But thank you Janet you are a star. 😘

If you decide to come to America....

Please raise the Titanic from the ocean floor... Find all of her treasures and Skeletons....... Wax the decks, unlock the Captain's door! ( LOL YOUR TURN ..envent 4 lines! Fun!)

If you decide to come to America....

Please raise the Titanic from the ocean floor...

Find all of her treasures and Skeletons.......

Wax the decks, unlock the Captain's door!

But they've been down to the Titanic

And pinched most what was there.

So I don't fancy trying to visit

To find the cupboard bare.

Love the shower poem, Don, and the Titanic one too. No selfie from me, I'm afraid. It would break the computer! xx Moy

But you may find some of the skeletons... With No breathing problems on board! Some are still laughing and dancing...".MY KIDS"...... says the Lord! Your turn...

β€’ in reply toJANET127

My cupboard's full of skeletons

I don't need any more.

I'm past laughing and dancing

Just want somewhere to snore.

My COPD nurse advised me to use my reliever before showering. It works!

I think it is pretty safe to say you don’t want a selfie of me in the shower, the ladies would never leave me alone. πŸ˜‚

β€’ in reply tojackdup

Oh I don’t know. The ladies here are very sympathetic, but the blokes might get a laugh. 🀣
