Hi, I was diagnosed with this back in October 2018 and have been on voriconazole since, i don't have any symptoms apart from the past two weeks where my sinuses are infected, don't think it's related. I have had blood test done every week to check especially the liver function, it always comes back clear. One thing i never do is doctor google however after looking into various sites i never realized how serious this condition is/can be. Has anyone else heard of this or know someone with it.

Aspergilla is in the atmosphere around us. It is more prevalent in places where there are damp and mouldy leaves or compost heaps. I was told years ago by one of my clinic doctors that they pick it up in us because we are always having blood or sputum tests but would probably find a reaction in 99% of the population if the ‘well’ people were also tested.

Aspergilla can show up as a reaction, in which case they do nothing and leave the immune system to deal with it. If it is giving symptoms they treat with anti fungal drugs. If your tests are now clear maybe you should ask your consultant about coming off the drug.

In very rare cases the fungus itself grows inside the ( damaged) lung and can lead to quite a swift death. As I said, this is very very rare.

I show a reaction to it all of the time and have no treatment but I must admit that I avoid compost heaps and don’t take too many walks in moisty woods.

I've got an ongoing problem with that too, on & off for about 10yrs. It goes into remission, sometimes for a couple of years, then comes back. I'm on itraconazole liquid but might be having IVs soon as it's proving a persistent little b****r this time. It causes a huge amount of inflammation. I never google, I only look at sites like patient.co.uk or the nhs. You can frighten yourself to death if you google it because yes it can be very serious, but usually it's controllable. The effect on the liver is one reason I avoid alcohol. So many drugs are a strain the liver so I try & help mine along as much as possible :)

I had this last year but didn’t realize it was such a nasty disease. Mine showed as pneumonia and I was taken to hospital. They treated me with antibiotics. I went home and found that first thing in the morning I had difficulty breathing. About three or four weeks after coming home I was in trouble. I managed to get to the loo as you do first thing and I was really struggling to breathe. I then passed out. I went back in to hospital where they ran more tests and found I had Aspergillosis. That was about May last year. I must say I don’t really feel right even now. I had an infection in first one then in the second eye. I’m still getting this infection on and off now. I never ever had this problem before the Aspergillosis.

Hi, I have just been put on voriconazole and was a bit (lot) worried about the side effects wanted some assurance that people had managed not to have them whilst taking it - I too have aspergillus on my lung. It seems you've got on with it ok, thank you

Hi & hope your doing ok.

I was on the same medication back in 2018 -2019, only side effect i had was severe photogenic, face like a red balloon lol.

I stopped it last year, the results would suggest its gone however ive still got a kung nodule.

I have a telephone consultation on the 16th so will see what they say.

Ive not seen anyone since early this year but blood tests were good meaning no trace of aspergilliousus in my blood, covid has stopped 4 meetings this year hence the planned call on the 16th.

They reckon i got it due to my bullous emphysema, ideal place for fungal to grow.
