been nearly a year since I have written anything but regularly check in.was diagnosed with emphysema in January 2018 still struggling to quit smoking. I still have no symptoms of emphysema as only knew I had it after a chest infection and was sent for a x-ray then ct scan.dont have phlegm or breathing problems did breathing test which was really good and walk 70 miles per week as i dog walk and train 2 night per week. so get confused about diagnoses.

Hi join the quit smoking site as they are fantastic at helping you quit and stay quit. I never thought I would give up either but I did manage 16 months. x
Hypnosis worked for me. One session and that was it .....in over 20 years I haven't smoked since...or wanted to. Sadly though it didn't stop the progression.
Hi Casper20, like hypercat54 I went to the stop smoking clinic, had 3 attempts to stop but finally managed it with the help of Champix. I used to smoke 60 - 70 a day but managed to stop smoking on 9th Sept 2008. The Champix really helped, there are other aides out there and the cease smoking people will advise as to which is best for you, if one fails they will suggest another.
It is well worth the effort and you will not only feel better health wise but will also save money.
Try your best to stop smoking , it’s very hard but may stop you from going in to the next stage of emphysema. Mild is a definite warning and you have been lucky to be diagnosed at the mild stage. Cx
you absolutely have to stop smoking - I kept at it and now are on oxygen 16 hours a day - I look out my window see other people walking and talking - friends going on holidays etc., apart from my lung disease would be fine - am annoyed with myself for being so weak - left it to long to give up - you must give up
Hi welcome back. Emphysema doesn't really announce itself. You really must try harder to give up the cigs, one day it will effect you and there is not a lot one can do. Lungs are precious things, once damaged repair doesn't easily follow. I should have given up a long time ago but thought, like you I'm OK I do enough. It hit me like a train then came the diagnosis what a shock then downhill from then on. I cannot get any standard treatment and have resorted to stem cell treatments, but not in UK. The whole exercise is expensive for treatment + travel+ accommodation. Don't let that happen to you, take action now while you still can it's not OK to go on smoking.
Casper I don’t know how you can relax on a cig the the mention of copd put the fear of god into me and I was a smoker for 55 years (classed as a light smoker but still a smoker ) Like me you have been given one hell of a chance to put things safe don’t loose it . Take care xxx
