I have flown to Los Angeles several times using medical oxygen. With BA. My hospital Consultant arranged "fitness to fly" tests on each occasion. You will need to contact the BA Medical Clearance Unit and your Doctor will have to provide a Medif form. I think that Virgin Atlantic have similar procedures. Obtaining medical insurance will depend on various factors, including your age, condition and medication - but it will be expensive.
I’ve flown several times to Florida with Tui,you can download their fit to fly form it’s a very simple form,I need oxygen on the plane and also book special assistance,I always make sure I also get everything confirmed in writing as I take my portable POC with me.It cost a little more to go into their shops to arrange it than doing it over the internet.I also usually ask my Consultant to sign a few copies of the fit to fly but not date them,I never used BA or Virgin .I did find it difficult to get insurance as I not only have IPF but also in the last 18 months had a heart attack and cancer,I had almost given up as I couldn’t get any quotes or ridiculous several thousands. Then I remembered I was covered with my Bank,Nationwide I phoned and they covered me for worldwide for £400..Good luck.
