Hi, I live in USA and we usually use our credit card company for insurance, my husband deals with that kind of stuff. Do you know where you plan to visit while here? I live in California and this is where everybody comes on vacation. Protect your skin with sunscreen if you’re coming for the beach scene. All our stores carry sunscreen. Or whoever is helping you with your travel arrangements should know your best avenues for insuring your property. Here in San Diego we have terms for weather in certain months: April showers bring May flowers. May is grey and June is gloom and then it gets HOT til December. We often barbecue our Thanksgiving turkeys outside bcuz it’s always warm enough. Have a great time!

Hi Sandyeggo, were planning on travelling all round the US by Amtrak, going anti-clockwise starting and finishing in New York. We will spend two weeks in Portland, Oregon visiting my daughter & family. I will be posing more information here between now & when we sail at the end of May.

In Australia they tell us credit card insurance is rubbish so be careful, I always explain my problems and pay a bit more but it’s worth peace of mind.

Hi Burghy, I've heard that CC insurance is not so hot too which is why were looking for reputable travel insurance companies. As you say better to pay more then enjoy the ride.

Hi, don’t use allclear, they wouldn’t pay my claim of over 86,000 dollars. They paid out after taking it to ombudsman but took 2 years of stress. I now use spectrum who was recommended by solicitor. It’s not the insurance company you need to be good it’s the Underwriters. Find out who they are and look into their reputation. It’s peace of mind

Good morning Linjones & thank you for your information & advice, I'll add Spectrum to my list to contact.

I am off to the US for a road trip this summer too. I have bronch, AF and dilated cardiomyopathy. I have been through most of the companies in the past but settled on SAGA this time because they are more sensible than even the so called ‘medical condition’ companies when it comes to my issues.

Thanks for your help littlepom, always good to hear from people who have experience with a particular company.

in reply toLoncinLad

I have never had to claim though. That could make a difference.

Hi I have stage IV lung cancer and got my travel insurance from boots travel insurance ! It’s an online application with many, many questions lol but my single trip to Rhodes for a week last June was £86!!! Had quotes for hundreds so this was great. I know you’re going to America so will be different but worth a try. All the best 😊
