I've heard of this place and am wondering if any of you get your meds from them. Their prices for COPD meds are almost too low to believe. Any comments would be appreciated. I pay around $300 a month for my Symbicort and Spiriva in the U.S. -- and that is with Medicare drug insurance.

Hi the vast majority on here are from the UK but there are some from USA who might be able to help. Why not try the American Lung Association which might be more relevant for you. x

Wow, $300 for just two inhalers, you have my sympathy. How on earth do you afford it, especially if you need more drugs?! Thank goodness in the UK we have the nhs. Obviously we pay for it though our taxes but apart from that we only pay £104 per year for all prescriptions. I hope you can find a cheaper supplier

Good grief! Not many in the uk would be able to afford that challny. We only pay for prescriptions between 18 & 60 years old when it's £8 per item in England. I believe in Wales and Scotland medication is free We're so fortunate to have our NHS, National Health Service.

It's free in NI too peege. And it's more than £8 now - think it's £8.80. I know I couldn't afford it if I had to pay even in the UK. x

Yes, it's very expensive. And that's not even counting Ventolin, but at least that last for a pretty long time. On the plus side, my doctor visits don't cost much at all, and I'm usually able to see them right away when I need to.

Yeah, once you've got past the Stasi and managed to get an appointment how long do you get with a GP? 5 minutes? Al well, we've learnt to be pro-active to get the best we can. Better than paying $300 a month 😁

Lots of people seem to have this problem. At my surgery, I can nearly always see my preferred GP, on the same day if he’s in. Appointments are 10mins or you can ask for a double one. Or I can book ahead online for a telephone or personal appointment. If they can do it I just don’t understand why others can’t. It would take all the pressure off A&E for a start.

Hanna, where do you live? dont know anybody who gets in that quick or can even ask for double appointment, there are just too many people here in Manchester and not enough doctors in the surgery to cope.

I get same day appointments or same day home visits if i need them. My preferred gp gives patients as long as required, you can guarantee that she will be late, for most appointments 10min is fine.

This is another problem we have here in overcrowded Manchester, our gp doesnt do home visits, when my Mum came home from Spain after suffering heart failure, we were told to get a taxi. Last time I requested a home visit I was told to go to A & E

Apparently! I rang in the morning and a very nice chap came round at lunchtime. He said he was a paramedic practioner whatever that is and that he had ten more visits that day. As you know gp's are private businesses so he is employed by the partners. If your surgery doesn't do this ask them why not. Mine is average size, 13000 patients and this chap is clearly busy, i know he works in the surgery too.

Same problem here in London Izb1.

The receptionist laughed at me when I asked for a double appointment! What a time saver that would be.

I know, it must be worse in London, although Manchester is seriously overcrowded and the amount of houses being built on every square patch just means more problems x

Lucky you Hanne62. If I want to see my preferred gp it can take up to 4 weeks for an appointment. Maybe it’s time for me to move!!!

Yep, it was the same at my London surgery. However, since I moved area the new surgery have a different system. For a same day appointment we call from 8am, explain the problem to reception who decide whether or not to pass you on for a call back from a doctor who'll then decide whether or not you can go in for a 5 minute appt. (it's 10 minutes for a pre booked appt). Infuriating interrogation from the call back doctor follows. One aggressive one told me "I've got here that you've only got asthma" and "we don't hand out antibiotics like sweets you know". Where I bite my own tongue and repeat "I'm simply asking for a few moments for a qualified person to put a stethoscope to my lungs to let me know if I have an infection or NOT"! Nearly four years I've been with them and they don't know me from Adam. When I've got the energy I'll check if it's the county system or just my surgery. At least we can make appointments for a telephone consultation - which I'll do right now for those emergency abs 😜.

Something very wrong with drug pricing in the US. I too pay for all my drugs - because I quit the UK for a second family life in Thailand. But a Symbicort turbohaler - 120 dose of 160/4.5, which would last me 30 days (when I was using it*) costs the Thai equivalent of about $US 40

*I recently decided I don't need it for my moderate bronchiectasis and BTS guidelines indicate that an inhaled corciscosteroid and/or long lasting bronchodilator are not usually recommended for bronchX.

Hi Challny, I also live in the USA. My meds Spiriva, Albuterol nebs, and albuterol inhaler. They cost me 55 a month, however at the 1st of the year its 400. And because of that I have to go without them until I get sick and pay for prednisone or antibiotics. Crazy how the pharmaceutical companies are so eager to give you a good price and doctors who prescribe. Sounds like it's time to move to the UK. By the way welcome.

I'm a US expat in Japan but when I was back in the US caring for my parents and needed inhaler refills I used Alldaychemist. They're very trustworthy and a lot of people on the US COPD boards swear by them.

I have found AllDay Chemists to be very good. The drugs, although having different names than the U S , are from reputable companies. i have used them for 4-5 years with no problems.

yes, I get my spiriva inhalers there and also ventolin. they work just as good as the ones we pay a fortune for in the us.
