Following on from my last post ,my breathing is a little better I have turned my heating down from 23c which went on and off when reached top temperature, I have now got it on constant 20c my house is medium size ,I find my breathing better at this temp ,I have realised why my breathing is so bad in winter is because of different temperatures ,example coming in from the cold to worm house or being out in the cold shopping and going intoworm shops really effects my breathing to the point I have to come home ,the heat affects me more than the cold ,do others find this ,thank you all for your replies to my breathless post

Central heating
12 - 20°C is my breathing comfort zone, outside of that range it will steadily gets worse.
Hi 2greys ,although I've been diagnose with copd three years it's only now that it is effecting my breathing sobad that I am leaning about it ,that is thanks to you great positive people on here ,I will poberbly have more questions to ask in future thank you for your replies I am so grateful
I had the same problem in the house I cannot stand being to hot but I like a little warmth. The house is a low heat but when I'm sat reading I sit with a blanket my daughter bought us for Christmas (including my hubby) and a small hot water bottle keeps me warm that way I can keep heating down a bit. Walking in the cold is not good got me. I have started do on line delivery which helps when cold. We still go out when it's a warm day go to our local pub twice a week. Have lunch and have the free teas while reading the paper and watching out of the window watching the world go by weatherspoons are brilliant small meals if like me you gont have a big appetite. And its friendly. We feel it gets us out and meet other people.
Same here last nigh got a bit chilly I'm a cold person so the same as you put extra clothing on I'll have to try the hot water bottle if need be
I don't like the central heating too high either. But i get chilly when sat. Particularly at night. I bought a heated throw from qvc. Its like a heated blanket, but it is a washable throw. It has different settings and doesn't get red hot. More a comforting wamth. Some times the throw without being plugged in is enough. Depends on how cold my legs and feet get. Mine is a green tartan, but come in other colours. Had it 18 months now and it works a treat. Love pat x
Forgot to mention the throw is a double fleece so lovely and soft, but not heavy. Pat x
Thanks for that idea Pat
Hi I have COPD and Bronchiectasis, the heat is dreadful for my breathing, I open my back door as soon as I get up and only put the heating on when I feel the cold. I find I do need to keep my body very warm, plenty layers. fleece etc. It is heat, traffic fumes, any fire ie coke, wood, barbeques etc. It can be difficult when neighbors put on any f the above as I have to close the door and don't ask about the summer especially the heat last year. Moan, moan moan. Mags
Now ive turned heating down my breathing is better than it was ,I also have brochiectasis with mid emphysema, don't no about you Mags I'm fed up of mucus
Yes the central heating affects me too in so much that I cough incessantly if its too warm I turned ours down to 21, if lower my husband is cold. x
I too start to cough the minute I come in from the cold or go out into it.
I enjoy fresh air and walking but do notice the very cold air sets me off with a bout of coughing.
It’s a constant juggling game. I am trying not to have the heating on for so long in the evenings this year and have been seen to wear 2 dressing gowns, a hat and a scarf. Luckily there is only me to laugh at myself!!
As long as it helps it doesn't matter what you look like ,you've made me smile
Yep,I'm going to be a total kill joy for those people who have their central heating thermostat on,anything over 18° and I still have my bedroom window open 3 or 4 inches all day and night. It's not unusual for me to be sitting with t-shirt and thin leggings on,whilst son and visitors will have jeans,2/3 layers of jumpers or sweatshirts on! However, they are all so brilliant and know it's a genuine heat problem I have rather than its me being unkind!!lol😀😄😃
I'm a much wormer person than I was
My problem is reverse my breathing gets worse in cold weather. We have a very cold snap after warm days...and this morning I had a very bad turn and none of my inhalers seemed to work...however a hot cup of tea sorted me out somewhat so am feeling better now...but it was a shock
I had the opposite problem last week with the heat very scary
I have real problems central heating. Need windows open on bedroom all year round. My family joke they think it's like the Arctic in there 🤣 but joking apart hate the hot dry air.
one aspect of this disease which does not seem to be recognised is I believe the inability of our bodies to successfully regulate our temperature - for instance I find I do not seem to sweat like I used to - which sounds good but is not as that was the way the body cooled down - I too now keep my house around 20 c and as I can no longer get to the boiler myself nor keep exact hours to set timer have bought a great device that once fitted allows me to set the temperature at any time from a gadget by my bed so can do 20.5 or even 21 sometimes and 20 at night so you are not alone xxx
I'm the opposite to you undine , I'm wormer now than ever,I was always a person who easily felt the cold ,but not anymore
