NO MORE EDIBLES

Hi everyone hope you are all doing well.i was 100% as i said last week for a month,no inhaler not 1 puff all that time.i have been smoking marijuana since age 17 i am 57.when i was first told i had copd dr said it was mild cause although my fev was mid to upper 60s my symptoms were pretty mild.i dr said stop the ciggs i did right away and no more weed.he actually said i can do edibles to help relax it wont hurt me as long as i dont smoke. well i started to make cannabutter and i use it every once in awhile to help me relax but recently i noticed it was giving me some breathing problems and i did not feel 100% as i did for a month. it takes like a week and a half to 2 weeks and i start to feel great again.how is this possible when i dont smoke anymore.wonder if anyone can give me an idea, i decided no more edibles my breathing is the most important thing and i want to move back up north soon so i can enjoy fishing in the mountains again and i cant do that if i cant breath.its just weird how edibles are bothering me i cant figure this out and now an outlet i have to relax once in awhile is gone.today i did 700 jumping jacks in 15 minutes and i didnt need the inhaler it helps me realize i am doing good and keeps me from panic attacks.the edibles were my outlet to relax as i refuse to take any pills,i hate pills.any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thc causes heart to increase which causes shortness of breathe

Do you have a link for that rigcu1? Do you mean the heart rate increases?

I ask as we have a member who uses cannabis as a bronchodilator, and I think that would be the THC component of the plant. He said his fev1 had increased (at least 10% as far as I remember) but we havent heard from him in a while though so who knows what is happening now.

in reply toO2Trees

No but I read up online what causes shortness of breathe and an elevated heart rate can. So I'm just assuming that's probably what is happening. So enjoy your cannabis butter and just do some deep breathing exercises if you feel sob?

i have been off the butter for 8 days and i am feeling better everyday.after i do the cannabutter for awhile i start having breathing problems not very bad but noticeable and then i stop and it takes like 10 days and i am fine and i feel great and dont even use the inhaler.its not the heart rate my heart is not going fast for 10 days 700 jumping jacks dont even bother me. i dont know what it is its very frustrating cause truth be told i love getting high it relaxes me but i love breathing 100& better.thc is suppose to be an anti inflamatory and even the dr said it will not bother me as long as i dont smoke it but it does.its crazy and i dont understand it cause when i stop like i said after around 10 days i dont even know i have copd.i didnt take a single puff of my inhaler for a month start doing cannabutter and after awhile maybe the 3rd or fourth time i start having problems.it doesnt make sense cause no smoke no problem but that is not the case with me.its very weird.

Maybe just try Cbd gummies. No thc

where is the fun in that if i cant get high lol.i am just going to do edibles once every 2 or 3 months cause having my breathing at 100% is more important.will try to do some research to explain why its happening but have yet to find a single word that says edibles effect copd breathing ,everything says just dont smoke and you will be fine.its crazy though its been 8 days and now i feel fine not 1 puff today of inhaler.so dam frustrating .would ask dr but i dont have insurance yet not till probably jan.even having the slightest problems freaks me out cause my biggest love in life is the mountains and fishing and i want to go back up north in the spring and the thought of not being able to do that causes me panic attacks.

in reply tohope132

Try not to worry you will be up in those mountains in no time. I love it up north here as well. It comes with that elevation so yes keep your breathing up. Perhaps it's time to find another way of getting high? Like maybe just have 2 beers or some wine with some cheese bites lol. Keep me posted on what you do, I have my medical mj card and I'll vape flower here and there to relax and medicate for pain etc.

Maybe when you do have butter have it in the am then go for a nice walk to open up those airways while you enjoy your buzz

have you tried kava? I haven't personally but I hear its sorta like getting hi?

I dont have any answers to your dilemma hope123 - it's years since I smoked weed and as for cannabis they say that, being sticky, it's a factor in the development of copd. Of course edibles shouldn't affect the lungs so I assume something else is going on.

But I just wanted to say that your doctor isn't right in saying an fev1 in the mid to high 60s is mild. 50-80% is moderate but the symptoms we have at different stages vary wildly, so your symptoms could have been mild while your actual diagnosis was actually moderate.

I'm guessing its the dependency on the edibles that causes you anxiety when you don't get your fix. Anxiety causes shortness of breath and increased heart rate, go figure.

In addition one of the many side affects of taking the fix is anxiety....

of course 700 jumping jacks in 15 minutes is going to increase your heart rate and increasee shortness of breath ;)

I can recommend yoga and meditation without drug enhancement for a calm and relaxed feeling day to day. I would say being in the mountains fishing would be very relaxing too :)

Dosent it act as a muscle relaxent so maybe it is just relxing your lungs / heart too much so they are not working efficiantly. Just a thought

Old thread i know, but get a good weed vape for dry herb only. I get the same thing whith edibles affecting breathing, allways have done, and i know of 1 or 2 others who are the same.
