Holby last night

Hi all, did anyone watch Holby last night a porter at the hospital was rushed in after I believe collapsing told he had c.o.p.d and immediately went into surgery for I believe lung reduction now after spending years reading posts on here and my own experience we would have been sent home told to visit G.P and likely waited years for lung reduction or maybe I’m being cynical

Hi there. Yes I spotted that as well and your comments are correct.

Very misleading to portray that surgery is available at a moments notice.

Not a good story line at all.

Telling how it is in real life is not being cynical at all. What happened to his fitness for surgery tests I wonder?

Would love to know the names of the doctors that advise them they obviously live in the world of non reality

How ridiculous! You are not being cynical but just living in the real world like the rest of us. I am glad I didn't see it as I would have been yelling at the screen like a mad woman! I have never heard of this happening ever and it does a great disservice to the general public. x

I think you need to remember that its fiction. My wife refuses to watch any medical drama with me as I always point out how inaccurate various situations are. She says it spoils the programme. Its not just casualty but many other soaps. I personally would love a soap that showed reality! But it would spoil too many story lines having the cast wait for a referral or being told that treatment is too expensive. Having worked in renal I watched in amazement a few years ago when soap managed a kidney transplant in two episodes.

thats exactly what my wife and i said, i would have liked to have had chest drain put in that easy my 5 times where horendus, also they seamed to underplay how bad it was for copd empherseyma patents,

I would also point out the harm that this could do. Somebody has watched this and then gets diagnosed themselves, freaks out and then it is up to us, the sick, to sort out the shipwreck. It is bad enough when people visit Dr Google, to be told they have 5 years to live! Rather irresponsible of the story writers.

Yes I agree it's ridiculous but then also if you've noticed they're all incredibly attractive too! Not like any hospital I've ever been in, or I'd be happy t go!

Yes me and my hubby were unimpressed with the way the BBC did this storyline I have copd and my consultant is still assessing me for lung reduction. And the way it came across on holly made it seem like have an accident and end up in hospital with vrackef rib get told thrte snd then going for an operation we thought was wrong. When the storyline came up i took an interest thinking of what would be saud by consultant. And also i suddenly heard the words that he was still smoking. My consultant had said he would not operate on anyone unless they had stored smoking. Not very well thought out by the BBC.

What a load of S***e!! and the BBC should be brought to book for it. Who writes that drivel?

I watched it and had to laugh at the story line! They always have an operating theatre free and staff to do the operation, whatever the condition, and they nearly always get treated the day they are admitted too (what happened to 'nil by mouth'). I love Holby - always have to take it with a pinch of salt - but it could be harmful too, I agree with that. xx Moy

No you are right I was admired to hospital spraying blood from my lungs last March kept in three days tol I needed an urgent referral for a fast track ct scan after visiting the copd doctor Dimov he asked my why I had not had my ct scan and research I said I haven’t been sent for yet, he then gave me a copy of the letter and said I would sue them so who do I sue and why when I need a holby city type operation am I forgotten about

I'm afraid as good as Holly is to watch it doesn't bear resemblance to real life. As you say this just doesn't happen in real life unfortunately x

Hi all thanks for the comments I know it’s entertainment but as it’s based on a hospital and has a team of doctors advising them then things could be more factual that porter could have been told he had c.o.p.d and was being referred to his G.P for on going treatment that would have been more nearer the truth people watch these programs and some believe this is what happens rant over lol

I have to say I do not watch Holby, but I used to watch the one that was really life at St George's ED London, that was until they had a woman admitted who had collapsed on her way to work because her heart rate dropped to 42 bpm, she had the event happen again in the ED dept so cardiology whipped her off to have a pacemaker fitted, she was a fit normally very healthy lady in her late 40s

I have for 2.5 years have had an internal cardiac monitor which has shown my heart rate drops to 32bpm or goes up to 140bpm at rest, and I have severe emphysema with cystic lung, angina and heart disease, but when I have to see the Cardiology Technicians for the readings to be done they say it is normal in a fit person, so if I am classed as fit (I am on oxygen) what is a non fit person like.

I will not watch it ever again as my way of a protest.

It's just another "Soap" now, which is why I haven't watched it for years.

I guess it is known as 'dramatic licence', but we all know better.
