I am being assessed for PR at the end of the month and just wondered what they do in the assessment? I am still in the dark as Doctor didn't tell me anything.....Fev1. 43%, not been given any meds other than rescue perscription if I need it!!, put on Copd register to be checked again in 12 months, had flu jab and sent on my way...
It’s just a general chat, explaining the course, possible BP check may do a pre course six minute walk test then one after to gauge the level of improvement very relaxed.
PR sounds very informative and a real help ie re advice on meds, exercise and understanding you condition. I had asked for it ages ago but alas still no referral!
Hello Suki01. I have got emphysema and copd. When I went to Pulmonary rehab for the first time, I did a walking test in the hall and they c how far u can walk in a given time. They also chatted about what u will b doing when u go to rehab. It is all done at a pace which suits u. I found the people very nice and helpful and it has really made me feel a lot better. I also found that if I want a chat about my condition or anything else they have always got time to talk. Any advice u need, just ask. I have been going for over a year now (I have to pay now) but I think it is worth it as I feel a lot better for it. I now go to rehab weekly but every 6 weeks when they have new people come, they asked me if I would talk to them for half an hour about how I have benefitted from going. I do this and u will find that u meet a lot of nice people. I would definitely urge u to go, I believe it’s well worth it. It’s exercise and I find it definitely helps. Sorry to go on. Best wishes and good luck. Perhaps u could let us all know how u find it. 👍🤓🏋️♂️
Thank you Roysieboy, your reply is very informative and no you didn't go on lol...i could talk a hind leg off a donkey!! I am looking forward to rehab and to see how far i can actually push myself, i am not on any meds and to be honest think i have been in denial with my health before i wad diagnosed, avoiding things that made me out of puff, and just put it down to age. On the outside i look fit and trim, do my hair and make up and put on a 😃 and make excuses when l know not going to be able to do something...this had definately been a wake up call and now i must get my act together and address my issues instead of ignoring them x
I loved the PR course!Ours was twice a week for six weeks and I signed up for the follow up which you pay a small fee for.We walked wearing a timer etc,our oxygen levels were checked and we had a work out to sort out our capabilities. I am not a lover of exercise and gyms but was surprised to find myself looking forward to it.We did weights, exercise bike, stepper ,wall push ups etc.We had talks afterwards on how to help ourselves. There were people at all stages of the various respiratory even some on oxygen. I was the only one with Pulmonary Fibrosis. I thoroughly recommend it!
So did I but I changed my mind. Doing something like that makes you feel normal again. It helps having other sufferers around who fully understand your problem as well. The people in charge were lovely. We had a young man fitness trainer who was really inspiring. His play list made you want to move! We did our warm up to "Despacito". He had chosen them all well.
I found that Katie Perry's "Roar" was good to use the stepper to!
Hi Aingeful, well i suppose it could have its advantages if a young, fit, male instructor was at hand (only joking)...thank you for the info, i am looking forward to it, and being more informed of this disease..and hopefully learn what meds can be usefull x
They do a detailed assessment of your medication life style and ability to attend. I went on a PR course but unfortunately it was during the heatwave and I couldnt attend or they cancelled. But learning the breathing exercises was very useful.
Hi, It's to check your stats and general health check so they can put your existing condition on their records. They will also get to do a walk test to see how far you get get at present.
Nothing to worry about, the people who run it are usually great and will keep an eye on you as you do the exercises. The people also doing the sessions with you some will be better than you some will be a lot worse, there are no prizes who can do the most exercise and everybody tends to gell together. It's well worth it.
