Burl Ives. (He might well laugh.)

Gimme Crap Corn and I don't care.

-----------------------------------------------------

For donkey's years I've always thought

That Burl Ives taste in corn.

Was not all that it should be

And the subject of some scorn.

But recently I realised

So very late in life.

That this, of course, was not the case

It's a song of work and strife.

So now I've a new interest

Correcting my misthought.

Just shows no matter how old you are

There's still a lot to sort.

If you're housebound and poorly

And don't know what to do?

Research yourself a misthought,

To take your mind of YOU.

Thanks Don ,a chuckle in the morning is a good start to the day . I think we’ve all misheard certain words in songs which has given them new and sometimes hilarious meaning 😊.

I was glad to find that I am not alone. :-)

Yup. Everyone has plenty of ‘misthoughts’. Did you make that word up?

Quote from a John Maynard Keynes:

“The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones.”

Hmmm..... too many doctors have been stuck with old ideas on my case. Getting them to adjust their ‘misthoughts’ will be a Herculean task.

in reply toKatinka46

I thought I had invented a new word, but it's in some dictionaries. 'Misspoke' is now in common use, especially by many public figures.

Family history is a good hobby and serves a very useful purpose for future generations. Youngsters tend to show no interest until their ancient relatives have 'kicked it' and it's too late for questions. I used to be the editor of a family history magazine many years ago.

Had to think about that one a bit - must be an age thing. Child of the 60s you know, with a bad bad memory from over-medication as a child. Made me smile.

in reply toWheezyAnne

It was intended to make you think and even to do a bit of research to find the correct words of the song, so don't knock yourself. :-)

Good idea, Don. Great poem again! You've corrected a misthought for me. I always thought he sang, 'Jimmy cracks corn'. Lol! It never did make sense to me. xx Moy
