Hi a really random one here but after recovering pneumonia how long do you leave it to drink alcohol again? I have my second chest X-ray to see if lungs are clear next week and then results on the 31st of October so thinking do I wait until after that?x
Pneumonia recovery : Hi a really random... - Lung Conditions C...
Pneumonia recovery
I chose no alcohol. But for sure you gotta wait til the antibiotics have finished so they can work. Alcohol tends to either increase or decrease potency of medication. X-rays wont show alcohol lol. But is there a rush on the booze cuz if not I’d suggest waiting til you’re in tip top shape or just pass all together
Oh gosh yea no way drink on antibiotics finished those 4 weeks back and yes know X-ray won’t show that lol just meaning if clear of the pneumonia.I’m still in the recovery period of resting so just wondered when is a good time to have a drink again in regards to waiting for second chest X-ray results which is a further month after I have It so assuming yes to wait until after that so hard to tell.Thank you for your comment x
Alcohol is no good for the immune system and the lungs. It tends to dehydrate you as well, as you know drinking a lot of water is important to get that mucus out. It tends to be a suppressant as well for some people who say beer is a trigger for asthma for example although it contains little alcohol.
Anyway I would avoid drinking alcohol during pneumonia recovery.
Now once you know that, and considering I am not a doctor let’s keep it in perspective. It’s up to you.
I am a bad girl I have a guinness on match days. Wine doesn’t agree with me anymore maybe it is the steroids. Very difficult for a French woman I must say😃
Good luck with that!

Haha that must be very difficult yes! Ok great thank you totally agree with you thank you for the comment x
Alcohol just slows down the recovery when on antibiotics but once you have completed the course alcohol shouldn't.t be a problem
Well this is what I was wondering. I know I am recovering but I’m into week 5 of recovery and antibiotics clear since then so thought I may be ok to but aware I have second chest X-ray this week but no results until the end of October though?
Pneumonia can take a long time to recover from. Your x-ray could be clear however your lungs could still be recovering from the infection. My advice would be to base if you have alcohol on how you feel and limit your first drinks to very small amounts. Alcohol can seriously affect breathing and recovery could be affected. I do enjoy the odd drink or two but my advice would be to leave it alone until you have reached pre pneumonia state of health.
