Zephyr valves for emphysema
Both Hacienda and Catnip who are on this forum have recently had Endobronchial valve insertions ,i suggest you check out their previous posts.Acceptance for the procedure is dependant on consultant referral if you would benefit from the procedure subject to various tests,Age is not normally a reason for refusal.i am due to have the procedure in November and i have very severe Emphysema and i am 65 yrs old,

Thanks so much. My daughter in law just sent me news about them. She read about them in the mail and thought of me. Bless her. I will check those 2 out thanks again.
Hi , Only just read your comment, been away over the weekend. Yes, I had the valves done in June, and They have made a huge Difference, I still have to have Oxygen, not as much as before and I do not gasp for Breath as before. You have to be referred by your Consultant. I had this because I have been on the Transplant List for over 2 years, and my Consultant thought it would be an Interim whilst waiting, The valves can be replaced so I was Told. I'm very happy with them. I wish Skis to feel the same after his Procedure in November, Love that Man. Good Luck. Love n Hugs to you Hun. xxxxx
Thankyou for taking the time to answer. I will ask my consultant to refer me to see if I am suitable. Then if so, may be I might get a life worth living. Anything that makes things easier to breath has got to be good. As long as the side effects are not worse than the condition it self. Thanks again and hope your new you continues till you get your lung transplant. Xxx
you can ask your GP to refer you for clinical trials at the royal Brompton hosp, you can find all info on line.
I also saw the article in the Daily mail and thought it offered a bit of hope, will be interested to know if it helps
I saw on the news that a lung hospital is to open in Leeds or somewhere in Yorkshire, I hope it's true xx
I think you will find that it is a private hosptal Spire Group who do valves on the NHS
Incorrect i'm afraid peter, most major hospitals within the uk with decent respiratory departments do the lvrs endobronchial procedure with Nhs employed consultants.being a non invasive treatment they do not require consultant thoracic surgeons though the spire group do these procedures privately and obviously state that they will do them and you can only guess at what cost..
