If you live in the UK your consultant can refer you to one of the hospitals with a decent respiratory department where they carry out the procedure, most major cities have one in their area, subject to meeting the selection criteria which amongst other things will involve having a chartis bronchoscopy to ascertain that you have negative collateral ventilation and of course the whole procedure is free under the Nhs.
If you were to go privately bear in mind that the valves cost approx £2000 each and then factor in their insertion,a minimum 3 day stay in hospital and follow up appointments and i doubt you would get much change out of £30,000.

Hi,thanks for this info i will have to badger my doc again as im getting fed up with being given the run around.
You need to badger your GP to refer you to a respiratory consultant and he will determine your suitability for the procedure, quite a long process and anticipate at least a 6 month process, this will entail obviously being smoke free, probably participation on a PR course and other factors such as checking your ability to undergo the procedure safely and of course if it may actually improve your quality of life.
good luck on that journey.
Sorry forgot to say this is the UK one and there are many more in other countries on the website.
PosyP, Pulmonx are the licensed manufactures of the valves and are based in California

I understand that most people in the UK intending to have major surgery done privately tend to go abroad where the prices are much more lower. Whereas people abroad, for whom cost is not a problem, come to the UK.
If you are in the UK this is free on the NHS. Elsewhere I haven't a clue I'm afraid. x
Thanks for the info, problem i have is getting a referal from my doctor, they see you in the surgery where you only have to walk twenty steps to his office, but never see me when i am gasping for air in the middle of the night after going to the loo,or on my hands and knees sometimes in the morning as i have not got the breath to walk down our hallyway,or carry a bag of shopping home .will give my doctor another try but all i seem to get is take your spireva, you have an inhalor, they are really about as much use as a chocolate teapot after 2months of using them.I also live in haringay and they have already tried to reduce the spireva to some cheaper brand thats useless, but its supposedly the same. Maybe i will have to change doctors but i dont hold out much hope of getting any help in this borough.
regards
Bill
Hi Bill sorry to hear about your doctors, we must use the same surgery. I can't remember what stage you are at but certainly if you are at the later ones then you should have been referred to a consultant. Have you seen different doctors? How do they justify not referring you? x
Get a referal to the Royal Brompton in Chelsea, excellent 100%
