ha ha you put a smile on my face this morning thanks x iv just stuck my patch on and im on the path, but i know i mite slip of the side of it a tad, but as long as i keep going the right direction thanks for your support xx
Hi you can give up the ciggies. I managed it but it did take a long time. I was diagnosed mild copd 10 years ago and fortunately even though I only packed in last year am still mild. I managed to give up with the support of the great Quit site on here. Have a look. x
If it's any help, when you stop smoking, your lung deterioration IMMEDIATELY reverts to that of a non-smoker, so you no longer have the more rapid deterioration. It might help the asthma, too, if that's due to smoke irritation. Good luck with stopping smoking - could be a win-win situation if you can pull it off!
Hi, I am not sure what tests your GP is/has done so find it difficult to comment. However hard it may be you really must give up the cigs as these will only make the situation far worse, we've all had to do it so believe me you are not the first. You have to move on no matter the confusion & strain you feel at the moment.
It does sound a little as tho' your GP is giving you a double check for the problems which has got to be a good thing . If he/she refers you to a specialist GO. Question what is your age? Under 60 you have numerous choices of treatments from lung transplants, lung reduction, lung coils, lung valves and even stem cell, so depending on age all of these options are available to you so do not despair. You will need to do some of your own research tho' to be prepared to talk thro' with your GP.
Hi Vixs19 i smoked for 45 yrs and i give up cigs on champix when i found out i had copd / emphysema and only 36% lung function left best thing you can do to help yourself just look at it as a gift to yourself
Commonly referred to as ACOS...Asthma-COPD Overlap Syndrome which is basically a combination of both. Now that you know that you have this, you need to find out the extent of it by being referred to a respiratory specialist. Once this is done, you will be able to receive the right sort of medication to help your condition, and just as importantly, to help limit it's further progression. However, the immediate top priority you have now, is to quit smoking and I cannot emphasise this too strongly, you ABSOLUTELY MUST stop asap. Make a plan to do this properly.
I too have this condition and quit a heavy 40 year smoking habit 20 years ago, many on here will also have it and tell you the same thing.
Tell yourself that smoking is a stupid, filthy, expensive habit and kill it.
Great, it's not a quick fix, but you won't ever regret it. I ignored the damage for far too long but did it 'cold turkey' once I accepted how it was wrecking my lungs and heart. It is the best way... An oldish link, but good. whyquit.com/joel/Joel_03_02...
I have COPD with asthma. Living healthily, exercising and avoiding all triggers including smoke and fags, can help you live a reasonably active life. with a bit of discipline and a lot of common sense. Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
Don't try to do it all at once. I started from a base point of 2500 steps a day, increasing gradually to the point where I now do 10,000 almost every day, and occasionally even 20,000. The more you do, the more energy you start to gain to do more.
thanks for all your well wishes , as we all know life is not as simple as just having a diagnoses as copd over lap asthma , i have a complicated life , i have also got a ptsd diagnoses from a gang rape at 15 years old and my dad sexual abuse when i was 5 , i dont tell anyone because i think people think im joking as i come across as normal , i also have a son that had autism and a son that is Asperger and a other had a complected of speicels needs ...but the piont of this is that as i got older and the more alone i got and thoughts that went through my mind have just made me ill like asthma and my smoking that has a big factor to my copd just trying to make sense of my life xxx
