just been to see nurse for my yearly test,Fev 1 was 59%,I am not sure what that means.Any help from you lovely people would be very much appreciated.

Stone, isnt 59% moderate? Since 50-30% is severe, and on my understanding 80-50% being moderate. Sorry to cause confusion r0yalalbert.

Sorry Just seen this.

I was 54% last June, and I was considered as Mild to Moderate then.

After an operation I dropped to 40% and have been told (politely) all that can be done for me at hospital is make me comfortable as I am in the Moderate to severe stage.

I would think that 59% is mild.

Take care, do the right things and you could stay mild maybe for a very long life.

As for me,,, I don`t intend to shake hands with the deil for a very long time yet ;-)

Most consultants and respiratory teams use the GOLD (Global Obstructive Lung Disease) fev1 staging measurements. They are given on Page 6 of this link - and you'll see that 80%-50% is moderate.Below 50% is severe.
