Evening to you all. This is the second time this year I've had Cellulitis, was given a week's supply of Antibiotics 3 weeks ago, it didn't clear up, so been to the Dr,s today for another weeks supply. Has anyone got any tips to ease this complaint.

Hello, That is what I had in my legs! It was so painful and I developed leg ulcers. The wound clinic was no help! I took Neurontin for the nerve endings pain. I went to the Health food store and was told to get this one kind of oil that was 30.00 for a small bottle. What I did was rinse my legs off in the bathtub. put the oil on and wrap them in Saran wrap! If I didn't wrap them, they would dry so fast, terrible painful! I had to have saran wrap! It felt like my nerve endings in my lower legs were exposed to the air..the pain was horrible! Finally one of the Doctors sent me to a Infectious Doctor. He prescribed antibiotics that were over 200.00. Healing finally! Then I went in for 2 veins in my legs, they put something in my veins, then took laser to melt them. It worked! What a trip! Hope this helps!

I am fighting this at the moment and trying to find something to alleviate the burning sensation and hopefully, reduce the swelling.

I used a mix of a couple of drops of tea tree oil with some aloe vera gel from my plant and that helped a bit. I am about to order some calendula cream as that seems to be recommended for cellulitis.

I might add that I also have peripheral neuropathy which can apparently make the pain appear worse.

I hope you find something which helps you and that the second course of antibiotics clears it. xxx

Hi Jansy16. So sorry you are suffering with the dreaded cellulitis. You have my sympathy. My late husband suffered from repeated and severe attacks of cellulitis in both of his lower legs over a number of years. Having sought help from a vast array of medical professionals I think I now have a relatively good working knowledge of this disease. I was told that one in five emergency admissions to hospital are the result of cellulitis and given the scale of the problem there are very few specialists out there who know how to properly treat it. My advice is do not stop the antibiotics. You may need to take them for up to nine months to resolve the problems. Flucloxacillin is still probably the best choice and where progress is slow it can be teamed up with amoxicillin. Once the bacterial infection is cured then it is a war of prevention. Dust all your shoes on a weekly basis with anti fungal powder. If you have any swelling in your legs then get your GP to prescribe proper made to measure support stockings. Never go barefoot. If you are offered low dose penicillin as a preventative then do take it and also keep an emergency supply of the appropriate antibiotics at home so you can immediately commence treatment if you do fall prey to the dreaded cellulitis again. Unfortunately I don’t have a miracle cure but I hope this information helps. Get well soon!

Hi there and I hope you don't become a member of the chronic cellulitis club. Dermatologist diagnosed mine as an allergic reaction in a localised area. It took a lot of stalking to get the referral made. Use a soap substitute. Use soft cloths to wash and dry. Moisturise moisturise and moisturise. Elevate legs. A good way in bed is to put a drawer under the bottom of the mattress, it's more effective than pillows.

Be vigilant. Any changes stalk your gp.

Tissue viability nurse may help, soak legs in solution of potassium permanganate was advised but I didn't have a bath so couldn't do that.

Dermatologist prescribed Dermal to wash and Aveeno to moisturise with (oat based & is on presvription) Fucibet for flare ups. Dermatology staff applied buckets of the cream and District nurses wouldn't follow consultants regime.

Eventually I Developed lymphodeama which is a whole other club.

Keep your eye on this cos it can creep up on you
