Restless legs?

Hello my BLF friends, just a quick question. Do any of you suffer from restless legs at all? Past few nights in bed my legs have been doing there own thing really.. it starts off with a weird sensation then they kind of kick out.. when you feel exhausted enough then this comes on. Just thought I’d ask as it’s starting to get me down..

Hi yes i get restless legs to i think its quite common. You could try drinking tonic water as it has quinine in it witch can help. It is also good if you get dehydrated witch is easy in this weather.

Hi Candyred I had restless legs for years with no relief. Eventually I went to see a Reflexologist and after two sessions I was free of it. Remember also that certain meds can cause it too. When I'm in hospital I refuse metroclopramide and cyclyzine as they both trigger it in me. It took many hours of wandering hospital corridors at night unable to lie still before I discovered that. Yes I understand the wandering bit.. I’m up shuffling about at all hours .. thanks Sheila..

Hi mskpjb, what did the reflexologist do to free you from this after 2 sessions? Only suffered this a couple of times just interested what the treatment was you had. Irene x

Well first she took details of any medication I was on. Then asked if there was any specific problem I wanted her to work on. I then lay on the examination table while she turned the light quite low and put on some tranquil music. She sat at the far end and worked on one foot at a time for what seemed like ages. I'd never had this treatment before and was quite surprised when she picked up that I was having trouble with my gallbladder, which I later had removed. Sheila x

Wow, very strange, I should have had my gall bladder removed last year but was too scared to go through with it, wonder if its connected? Thanks for the info Sheila x

As a general rule I don't have this Candyred. But during the hot weather when I flop on the settee after dinner then it comes on with a vengeance. If I get up and wander around it goes, or I don't notice it, but usually by that end of the day Im too knocked out to get off the settee. Sorry you're having such a problem with it.

Candyred in reply toO2Trees

Thank you for your reply .. it’s funny but I don’t notice it during the day .. either that or I’m not relaxed enough.. x

Hi Candyred it sucks having more and more things to contend with. I don't have restless legs but lately I keep getting a weird sensation in my feet, I feel as if I've stepped in a puddle. I look at my feet but they and my socks are totally dry. I have no idea what that's about! At least it doesn't bother me, it's just weird. I hope tonic water will bring you some relief.

I used to get restless legs. I was told it can be caused by a low iron count so I took iron tablets. It seemed to help me.

I have it from time to time and I've noticed its worse if I haven't taken any exercise like walking for a few days. That's how it seems at the moment although I used to get it quite a lot when I was younger and I was more active then so I don't know what caused it then. I try and have a bit of a walk every day now and it seems better. I think it can be caused by certain deficiencies too as well as meds so its worth looking into those things. Its a horrible feeling. I've also found taking painkillers can help settle it. Hope you find something that helps, its not nice and keeps you awake.

Caspiana profile image
Caspiana in reply toChloe12

Same here Chloe12 . I get it if I've had a bad patch and lying down a lot. It also is more prevalent in people with iron deficiencies. xx 🌹🌻

Chloe12 profile image
Chloe12 in reply toCaspiana

It definitely helps if your legs have had some exercise during the day, not always easy though is it when you don't feel well. Do you find anything in particular helps you? X

Chloe12 profile image
Chloe12 in reply toChloe12

I did used to be anaemic from heavy periods when I was younger so that would explain the iron deficiency then.

Hi, this maybe a bit off piste but I used to work at a doctors surgery about 15 years ago and the pharmaceutical reps used to bring lunch sometimes in return for the doctors listening to whatever new snake oil remedy they had come up with. To say the doctor who owned the practice was forthright in expression of opinion is an understatement. One memorable lunchtime the unsuspecting rep gave a presentation about ‘restless legs syndrome ‘ and the new drugs the doctors could prescribe for this new condition which had been developed by his company. As opposed to all the sensible suggestions that I have just read from obviously sensible members of this forum above.

It still makes me smile how the doctor calmly munched his lunch before launching the verbal equivalent of the opening barrage of the battle of Ypres about what he thought of this new drug, new condition and his opinion of another doctor the rep mentioned who apparently was very impressed with the drug, questioning the wisdom of this other doctor who apparently wore a ‘ridiculous rug’ on his head and also, I am not joking he said this, ‘slept with patients ‘. A lunch to remember.

He was known as ‘Dr. No’ by many people because he would not prescribe drugs (quite rightly) that he deemed useless or if people were looking to be prescribed drugs to abuse. He was actually a very pleasant and humorous man. The stories I could tell ......

Yes, I suffer from it. It’s so draining not being able to sleep because of restless legs. I went to the docs and they said there is nothing that they can do for it. I looked on line and it said it could be caused by low vit d or low magnesium or certain drugs you are on but most of the sites only had natural remedies to try to stop it like exercise, massage, warm bath before bed. It’s not nice so I feel your pain. Best wishes 😉

hi and YES. I've suffered for years and even done a clinical trial but unfortunately was given the placebo . I found someone on line who reckoned he had tamed his restless legs by taking lots of different supplements. Try rlcure.com

I have modified my supplements and diet and its not as bad . I have also noticed that sitting for a while can bring on restless legs later. If I don't sleep well then the next nights can be bad too. If its UNBEARABLE I take co-codamol before going to bed and this helps as my sleep is better. I try not to take pain killers but sometimes it is a must.

if the above website doesn't work type in ;

absolute cure for restless legs

and that should bring up the pages

My wife and I both suffered this problem,

Read in a magazine to put cake of face soap under the sheet where you can touch it with your feet , it worked for both of us and other people we told, when your legs start to feel restless move the soap around with your feet,

Hi Candyred, I have had RLS along with asthma since I was child so its normal for me. Some days one foot or the other gets vking really fast whether Im sitting laying or laying down. When I go to bed I feel like the rocking from shaking my leg helps sleep. Must be from so many years living with it. My iron has slways been too high. Iron carries oxygen to cells so I know its not low iron that causes it. I started swimming 4 days a week and my legs have slowed down alot. If you figure it out, it would be interesting to see what my life would be like without wigglkng all the time. My father and brothers do it as well, but not in bed they say. Thanks for your post and hope you can find a way if its bothering you so much, to get it controlled. I wont take a pill for it because the benefit wont outweigh the risk. Good luck. I do take supplements. Magnesium is one, every day for years and the legs keep going like they have a mind if their own. I dont notice it, but other people do. Especially if their sitting next to me, or thr diner table looks like theres an active earthquake , lol.

I have had restless legs since I was a child. My Gm use to say when i spent the night with her that I played the piano all night. I even have it when I’m sitting in the chair. Constantly switching legs and moving my feet. I’m 75 and have tried multiple recommendations but I can’t get ride of it. I think I’m wired wrong. LOL

Hi Candyred, I have borderline copd, found out this year I also have ROD since 2011, I was prescribed gabapentin it works great I don't feel anymore tingling or pulling in my legs at night it's because of the gabapentin it's working great, maybe you can look into that. Good luck, phone I also have cirrhosis, gabapentin doesn't metabolize in the liver, which is good for me. Take care

My friend had it really bad her Doctor gave her medication small dose for parkinsons.. I asked her about a sleeping pill she was taken for quite a while that might be the cause of her legs.. She went off both drugs.. Some times drugs can cause them or low in magnesium..
