It sounds as though there are other health issues that are complicating what meds are suitable. I have COPD and other issues and like a number of people here I am prescribed morphine. He needs to talk with a doctor. It is a too serious issue to gamble with.

Kind regards, Rib

Says the above medication can cause copd to worsen and cause early death

Yes it can but sometimes doctors will prescribe it because the benefits outweigh the dangers. This is why you need to seek professional help with this question. Doctors are able to make value judgements that the lay person can't. x

It is the codeine in this drug, as codeine suppresses the cough that's why it is in many cough medicines.

Yes Katie it's amazing. I wont go too far into the tale but after having an uncontrolable coughing fit for about 4 hours I ended up in A&E. I was given a strong Co- codamol tablet , described as a suppressant and within about 10 minutes the cough had gone. Bit of a side effect i.e constipation but that's not so bad, is it ?😩.

My husband can't have cocodamol for that reason its worse for him because he as a stoma. I've been bad when taking cocodamol I got right constipated couldn't eat elwhen I did I was sick had stomach ache shivering hot and cold like I had the flu felt dizzy the doctor gave me a syrup and some anti sickness tablets and after a day I started to get back to normal

Sorry for your husband, he's got to take care with everything. It's obviously not for him. Sorry for you as well. Maybe you have some kind of allergy to it so can't suit everyone.

Take care.

Yes that's the only down side to codeine based tablets, but worth it to calm the cough. I drink extra fruit juice to stop the constipation as some other drugs have that effect too.

Sounds like you have your drugs under control, I have problems with drugs so have to try other ways . Only thing I have never had is the patches , think they are morphine based.

Thank you Stephend, think some of the pain issues may be resolved in the next few months when I get re-referred to the pain management & I have a Rheumy appointment in about seven weeks time, plus a dexa scan. Bye for now

I take the selective NSAID Etodolac and co-codamol for pain from old rta injuries. I have COPD (probably just emphysema) and asthma.

I would just take Panadol and see how it goes. These painkillers are deadly.

Depends what other medicines you take... eg if you take ramipril for blood pressure they'll not want you taking ibuprofen 'cos potential kidney damage.

So best ask Gp.

I can't answer your question but I saw this about COPD it will be handy to know

Trimbow inhaler

Hi has anyone used a fairly new drug called Trimbow which is a three in one drug inhaler? My dad has had amazing results which has enabled him to come off his oxygen during the day and give a reading of 90 plus whereas prior to using Trimbow he was needing oxygen pretty much 24 hours except when eating, drinking. This drug is supposed to reduce flareups but doesn't state it can reduce a person's dependency on oxygen. My mum mentioned it to the COPD nurse but she didn't have any answers. Would be great to hear if anyone else has had this happen to them

Sounds good

I take tramadol & paracetamol when pain is bad, and I do have voltarol for external use. Can't take gabapentin due to cough, or Nsaids due to Asthma. I do have COPD and it as taken some time to tailor a drug regime that works, you need to work together with your doctor. Best wishes and good luck with finding what suits we are all differrent.

I've had COPD diagnosed since around 2009 and reconfirmed in 2011 at Glenfeild hospital.

Hello Outdoors, I use cocodamol for Osteoporosis pains but I also have copd Emphaseama. At first I felt very tired after taking then but not now. I find them very good for pain. However, everyone is different so it's best to talk with your GP first. I don't find paracetamol good for anything but some people do. All the best and let us know how you get on 🤞
