i have a problem hip anf hand > possible arthriist. is there anyone who has experience of that here ? who also has breathing problems . I have bronchiectasis.
I struggle to walk and is painful but can take painkillers. the struggle to walk after siiting is improved by cocodamol but pain persists. was taking asome cocoda mol and have now been seent codeine phoshate . and have noticed my breathing has got worse recently when i am mobile . Dont take paracetamol usually for any thing as has never made a differnce . but this pain persists. so have now added paracetamol to the codeine phosphate as well . this codeine isnt as effective in making me more mobile . no doubt my imagination can be at fault there
. cant talk to the surgery . they have too many patients and just cannot get through wihout waiting a really long time. the phone system set-up is useless means you have to wait hours.
does paracetamol affect the breathing ? i have seen one warning abut that .
should I stop taking it straight or wait and see over weekend .

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2004, I also have osteoarthritis, pretty much all my joints are affected. I take cocodamol for the pain, but it doesn’t really work, so on the worst days I also take ibruprofen, but a lot because I also have asthma. I also have spinal stenosis. Walking is very painful, I have arthritis in my ankles, feet, and knees and I have to use crutches to walk (not arthritis related) and use a mobility scooter outside.
In 2012, after having a persistent cough for months, I was diagnosed with asthma, bronchiecstasis and interstitial lung disease. I get breathless when walking a very short distance. I don’t know if paracetamol affects my breathing, I only take it with the codeine in cocodamol
Spine problems are not good at all - i got this later in life, If you take just one 500/30 cocodamol - That is just half the normal two tablets . Anne is on the same.
My wife is similar to you, having diagnosed asthma and arthritis. You mentioned ibuprofen; her advice from the medics is not to take it as it may worsen the effects of asthma. She is advised to take paracetamol instead. Others I know have been given the same warning. I suggest this is worth you checking out.
Maybe the 'don't take ibuprofen' advice is for people who have noticed wheezing or a bronchospasm once having taken it.
I've heard (and read) it many times in general but, perhaps, it's an over-cautious piece of advice - just in case someone might turn out to have such a reaction. If your lung consultant says it's OK for you, that must be true.
Why don’t you talk with your pharmacist? They should be able to give useful advice with regards over the counter medication and contraindications with your prescription medication and conditions.
I have osteoarthritis in my Hip. my lower spine and Cervical Spine/neck. which radiates into my left arm .
I can't walk far at all.gardening I used to enjoy I am limited, when weather is warm I sit on grasss and tend boarders, not ideal but I like to do enjoy this.
I take Morphine in the daytime as needed and Dihydrocodeine at night.
Paracetamol alone is no good for moderate or severe pain but, mixed with other painlikkers like Codeine or Morphine they help, my GP prescribed Paracetamol.
I read google and read warnings over Paracetamol. never affected mr with Asthma, and COPD - I have not seen warning on Paracetamol leafelet.
Paracetamol is dangerous in overdose, but taken as per leaflet (should) be fine. I would say a lot more safe than Ibubrofen which I am not allowed to take.
I take meptazimol as I can’t take ibrufen but I’m also on MST’s ( slow release morphine) and take oramorph and paracetamol as nothing else would touch the pain, I have osteoarthritis and osteoporosis in my spine and all my joints, it’s very painful, my spine has already been fused but is starting at other levels, no more operations for me now due to other issues but you learn to enjoy good days.
Hi Jaybird. I have COPD and heart disease and have been told that I cannot take Ibuprofen with my other meds, which was always my go-to for arthritis pain in my hands. I am only allowed paracetamol. I don't get on with cocodamol, really upsets my stomach. I sometimes take Anadin when the paracetamol doesn't work for me, though I shouldn't really as I already take asprin for my heart. I also take Glucosamine. I would take your list of drugs to a pharmacist and get their advice on what you could take. I try to eat more fish too. Good luck finding something that works, it's miserable living with pain. x
I take the NSAID (aspirin family) Etodolac as a daily base to ease the chronic pain of arthritis, with co-codamol as required through the day, usually two to three doses, two tablets at a time. It never takes the pain away completely, but it stops me being ratty.
When the pain is stronger than the pain tablets, I arrange to see a physio to help correct what's wrong.
Hi Jaybird, I have recently started getting painful arthritis in my right hand- it's come back after years of inactivity. I also have a pain in my hip. It started after I went on a coach trip holiday- too much sitting down on the coach left me with a tingling pain all up my right leg. The doctor thought it was a trapped nerve. It's gone away now except in the hip. Doctor prescribed plenty of walking and avoiding stairs. (Good excuse to use lifts wherever possible.) Walking seems to ease it- well it's relatively mild at the moment, but I don't know what to do about my hand. Painkillers don't help. The doc prescribed Ibuprofens gel, but all that does is mess up my clothes. I hope you find a solution- it's not nice to live with pain xxx
It's miserable living with pain everyday. I suffer with rheumatoid arthritis, oestoarthritis and have bronchiectasis. I had my hip replaced just over a year ago which has helped. I have recently started with sciatica in the hip that was replaced and think my r.a. is playing up inn my left arm. Not sure if I have been sitting about too much. I also have a problem in my head which is still being investigated, they think it is trigeminal neuralgia and is causing terrible pains in my eye, ear and gives shocking headaches. I try not to take too much medication as none of it really works and just causes problems with your kidneys and liver. The one thing I do take if the headache starts getting bad is Gabapentin, I only take one and it usually helps to stop it getting out of hand. Some nights if I have had a really bad day with pain I will take a Codeine tablet at bed time as this helps to relax me some get some sleep. Perhaps speak with your gp about having a steroid injection in the sites that hurt the most, they can really help sometimes x
