Can my mum go on holiday copd when shes on oxygen

My mum has copd and is now on oxygen from 5pm till 9am next morning her mobility is restricted but she really wants to go on a short holiday wiith dad but she is constantly saying she cant with being on oxygen and feels trapped is there anyone out there that does go away and how would we do this

I used to know a lady who took her husband away to a caravan park. She used to research those that could accommodate the oxygen. I would see what is available within caravan parks and cottages etc.

Thank you will have a little around as shes feeling really down and trappes but after joining the group read some great info thank you for taking the time

Once you have found a suitable holiday, just contact the oxygen suppliers and give then the details of your Mum's oxygen requirements, where she is going for her holiday and the dates. They will then arrange with the local oxygen suppliers in that area to deliver oxygen there. So when your parents arrive the oxygen will be there. Hope this helps. I have been away a couple of times and it really is a lot easier than people think. Hope your Mum enjoys her break

If holidaying in the U.K. there is no problem. Contact your oxygen provider and they will arrange delivery of oxygen to your destination.

Going abroad is more problematic, as you can not take U.K. supplied oxygen equipment outside the U.K.. it would most likely require the purchase or renting of a portable unit if suitable.

Hi Hun , I go to Spain with oxygen , I pre order my oxygen concentrator before I go ,which is a little awkward ,but if she's going abroad , I can tell you how to sort it ,then they bring it to me , I have an EHIC card so in Spain I don't pay anything for the concentrator, I also have to have oxygen to fly and bought a small portable concentrator not much bigger than a bag of sugar !! If your mum needs it to fly ,you can't take cylinder's out of England , you can take your own as I do, or airlines do rent oxygen to you but it is expensive !!! And like Stone said it's simple if you're staying in England , tell her to get sorted there's no need to be a prisoner at home just because you're on oxygen !!!! Meant to say if she needs it to fly she will need a fit to fly certificate ,your Dr, can sort and you must let the airline's know when you're booking , good luck xx

Could you get her a mobility scooter to help her get out and about? Then the oxygen can go with her in the basket but she's not having to lug it about. A gentleman at our local Breathe Easy group does that.

Hi, sorry to hear that your Mum feels trapped by COPD. Try her oxygen supplier for some details of what service she can expect from them. Then try a search for places to go with oxygen support.

Oh, yes she can!! If your mum is just on L-TOT (long-term oxygen therapy), she's not using it during the day unless she's using is as ambulatory too (that is, for getting around). I was on ambulatory oxygen and L-TOT and got away quite a lot. It just needs managing.

Your mum needs to get her supplier to deliver a concentrator to wherever she is going to stay -- that's a phone call's job. They will supply the machine; then if she also uses cylinders, she needs to make sure that she has enough to last for the duration of the holiday PLUS journey time there and back.

You could get a "granny" shopping trolley for her to put the cylinders is, or even one of those walker things with a seat, so she doesn't have to carry cylinders. She'll have her meds and inhalers anyway.

I'm on 24-hour oxygen and manage to get away; your mum just needs my friend to get her organised Tell her to get on with it -- no time like the present.
