My mum suffered from neuropathic pain, and tried several meds including amitriptiline and pregabalin, but couldn’t tolerate either. She was then prescribed Duloxetine, which is an antidepressant which also helps with pain - which seemed to suit her well on both aspects.
Perhaps read up on it or ask your GP what s/he thinks?
Duloxetine is what I am taking, it's marvellous stuff, but it does leave you without emotions. I would never stop taking it, but does take time to kick in like most antidepressants.
Thanks Marie22 just want to come off everything just can't cope its the neurologist that suggested amitripyline but will see doc on Wed don't want to up my Pregablin and be out of it but can't stop them all together just itchy and burning with amitriptyline.
I think I'm the same on the amitripyline not seeing doc till Wed he also said to up my Pregablin don't want as I want to function and not be out of it went to our local urgent care centre to get checked over for my own piece of mind had a complete check over and chest xray everything fine no one wants to help me at home my daughter helps me out a lot hubby wants to sit out in the sun and son keeps himself in his bedroom will just plod on just want to come off everything so tired and itchy.
Unfortunately, as Marie22 says, an alternative such as Duloxetine won’t be fully effective for some weeks, and certainly not by the beginning of next week.
It sounds like you are going through a tough time with the loss of your Mum and her funeral on Monday, your health problems and feeling unsupported by the family.
Can you just focus on looking after yourself for the next two days - no housework or family meals etc- to give yourself a chance to calm down, recuperate a little, and be more able to cope with Monday?
I don’t know your full story, but I wonder if some counselling might be helpful for you for the long term? If you are coping with bereavement plus chronic pain it is very wearing and pulls you down. Perhaps you could ask your GP when you see him on Wednesday.
Keep posting if it helps to feel listened to, even if it’s strangers you’re talking to 👍
Thanks beech been referred for cbt counselling but 16 week waiting list had telephone assessment in April also being referred to a physchtrist as gp reckons I suffer from chronic anxiety I came off old antidepressants after 21 years dosulpin with support from gp now have bronchiectasis lung consultant appointment not till September tried new antidepressants but just left me exhausted was veey traumatic visiting my mum in hospital but will try and rest now till Monday thanks for your support
Sorry to hear you are in such a bad situation right now, I have been through exactly that. My lower back pain always starts after an extremely stressful time. Nortriptyline, a similar med, was given to me for TN which is a "shall I suck on a shotgun" type of pain and was entirely useless. After 5 weeks of absolute hell I went for acupuncture and it stopped immediately. I am still free of it after 6 weeks. I have seen remarkable results with my daughter for another complaint, instant success, and still clear 17 years later. The doctors wanted to give her a blood transfusion, acupuncture reversed her condition later the same day. This really is something you should try as it isn't invasive or poisonous. If you do you won't look back. Good luck.
Thank you for your comments will look into acupuncture saw an osteopath and work well but don't see her now last one I saw he worked wonders but felt so sore and neck was a wreck maybe women osteopaths are more gentle.
I am so sorry about your mum. It must be a terribly difficult time for you and on top of that you have pain. I can sympathize. I was given Pregabalin. I took it once or twice but it just zonked me out completely. I told my doctor I couldn't take it. 😞 Please do let your doctor know about your back pain and dry nose. Back pain is dreadful. I had back pain after the birth of my second child. It lingered for a year. I understand how uncomfortable it is.
I hope your mum's funeral will go smoothly and you will feel peace. 🌿
Thank you I have been on pregablin for quite a few years and was reducing thrm with the of my MS and I fought the tiredness and fatigue can be one of the
symtoms of MS because I have lost weight gp has said that is why I feel exhausted but U will mention it to him also I have degenerative disease in my back and I had 2 lumber punctures first hit my nerve and I collapsed going to ask him if I can go back on Gaberpentin again and come off amitriptyline.
