I was talking to a neighbour this morning who said a friend got the shingles vaccination at age 65, I always thought it was 70 years and over. I checked Stones link and did another search for the vaccine for over 65 years and spotted the .gov info (dated 2017) with 2 pdf downloads you can view them from the link below.

Apparently :

" Prior to April 2017, shingles vaccine was offered routinely to individuals aged 70 years with a phased catch up programme based on age as of 1 September that year. However from 1 April, in order to simplify the delivery of programme, eligibility has been changed to the date a patient turns 70 years (routine cohort) and 78 years (catch up cohort).

Patients who attain the age of 70 or 78 can however be opportunistically immunised at any point in the year. Patients remain eligible for the shingles vaccine up until their 80th birthday. Those with existing eligibility for the vaccine but who missed it, can be offered immunisation on an opportunistic basis. "

For info the neighbour said he's had the shingles vaccine with no reaction at all but his friend had a very bad reaction to it.

I read also on the NHS FAQ page that;

" Around 1 in 5 people who have had chickenpox (usually in childhood) go on to develop shingles. "

Worth keeping in mind also that the qualifying age may vary in different parts of UK (England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales) so again worth checking wherever you are living in UK or overseas for that matter

I am wondering, those who have had the vaccine how did you find it?

If you remember did you have any reaction to it at all?

You should not have the shingles vaccine if:

you have a weakened immune system (for example, because of cancer treatment, if you take steroid tablets, or you have had an organ transplant – your doctor will advise whether this applies to you)

you have had a serious allergic reaction (including an anaphylactic reaction) to a previous dose of any of the substances in the vaccine, such as neomycin and gelatin – again, your GP can advise you if this applies to you

you have had a serious allergic reaction (including an anaphylactic reaction) to a previous dose of the chickenpox vaccine

you have an untreated TB infection "
