Thank you all for your reply’s. Got 6 classes to go and then you get 8 lessons for a hour after. I am a sceptic but after this it’s really helped. I had a hip and knee op and it’s even helping that.

I like the advice and help you get as well. Sorry to say people drop out or don’t turn up and they put so much into it work really hard it’s sad. Talks on medication diet I even found out I wasn’t using my medication correctly all the time they spend on you worth it’s weight in gold. Go for it 😃😃😃🌹

PS made an appointment see my nurse who referred me tomorrow just to say thank you..

Hello Victoria. I have emphysema and copd, I was referred to Pulmonary rehab in August last year. I got 6 weeks on NHS, then where I go in Kent they run a maintenance group, where u do the same exercises etc. but u have to pay. It is 1 hour a week. I also do the exercises and walking at home with the help of my wife. I still go as I have found it very helpful and I do feel a lot better for going. They tell me there that I have done well and I was asked and I accepted to go for free to the centre once every 6 weeks to explain to people there how it has helped me. Apparently it helps if people hear it from a sufferer. They said me going is helping others. Sorry to go on a bit but I can’t sing Pulmonary rehab praises enough. U learn so much, if u want to. Best wishes to u for the future. 👍🤓

It's marvellous isn't it. Can't rate it highly enough. Mine in Wimbledon was excellent, I too discovered I'd been using an inhaler incorrectly for the previous three years! No wonder I got ill, when worsening asthma too a nosedive. What with PR and joining BLF I've learnt so much to improve health and quality of life.

If anyone is interested there's a post PR class Wed and Fri in Gloucester, £3 an hour, drinks & biccies afterwards. The trainer is very good.

Good for you Victoriablue

I want to sing the praises of PR also. I was going to PR phase 2 and also going to a local university gym (I am an alumni) and seeing a personal trainer and taking Pilates and Yoga. But it is hard taking classes with very fit 20 somethings and also not having good breathing coaching. So when I was offered the chance to sign up for PR 3 at another affiliated rehab/gym for a decent fee (a yearly cheap fee for all the machines and equipment, a small amount for a 11 week pulmonary class, and the option of group classes) I jumped at the chance.

There are so many benefits to PR. Education, diet, breathing techniques, meditation, improving all over physical health.

But here are even more crucial rewards.

I felt angry and sorry for myself until I started my rehab at a major rehabilitation institute and saw people with enormous illnesses , injuries, and disabilities not defeated but working to improve their lives. Instead of "why me" I realized that I was luckier than I knew. So I pulled up my "big girl pants" and got to work .

Committing to going to rehab and the gym gives me a sense of control and reduces the sense of helplessness.

And there are the people you meet ----the "clients" with a variety of lung conditions. The rowdy wheelchair group in my chair Zumba class , the Tai Chi instructor who 4 years ago was run over by a semi truck and fought her way back. (she and I are the only ones standing in the class and we both almost fall over doing a "rooster" or crane). And my "drill sergeant" PR therapist --I also take flexibility/balance classes, and a weekly "walk" around a nearby park with Nordic Walking poles. (I call it Nordicing). Dragging my poles downtown weekly is fun on the subway.

So if you can go !!!!!

So pleased for you I also have been really down with 2 ops in 7 months croon and copd. This week is PR number 6 and can’t believe how much better I am even putting weight on went so thin. Is it any gym you ask about the extra lesson as I have 6 to go want to keep these bones and breathing going so much happier. Rose
